About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great layout.
Belong at a local club in Cary, but enjoy playing Lonnie Poole a couple times a year as a change up. IIt is always a challenge and views of the city are awesome!! Pro shop staff and course rangers were great. Very friendly.. Will be back!!

Great Track, Needs a Rest - too many rounds
Excellent track, very hard course. You can tell its had way too many rounds this year and the greens are suffering for it. They were a little shaggy and damp, probably to keep them from being destroyed, so the putting was not very consistent. The layout is phenomenal, all the holes are interesting, I don't think I saw a single "throw away" design in the bunch.
This is an extreme home course advantage for NCSU golf, what an interesting track and very challenging. I couldn't imagine playing it from the competition tees, the Red (think blue everywhere else - no blue at NCSU!) was tough enough at 6500. The comp tees are almost 1,000 yards longer and par 71!
Go, enjoy, be aware its a bit pricey and the greens have taken a beating.

A good time
A tee for every one but choose wisely. Shot difficulty grows exponentially as you proceed back in tee choice . But the layout is lovely with views and elevation change. Great grass and smooth healthy greens.

Slow!
Always wanted to play here because I went to school here; wasn’t a golfer back then. Well finally got to play and it was the absolutely most excruciatingly slow round I ever played and I walk 18 during the fall and spring seasons. This was almost a 5 HOUR round. Rough is super thick so hit’em straight or lose a lot of balls. Greens were slow and soft so this course played LONG. Overall I would say fall or spring season is the time of the year this course glimmers but the pace of play just killed the euphoria I had in my mind playing this course.

Course layout is always challenging. Tee boxes , fairways and bunkers were great! Greens held great... but some places on the greens that need some work. Probably due to all the rain we have had in the area. Over all love playing this course when they have the special prices. Go Pack!!

The greens were not in the best shape for a course of this caliber. It seems that very few people repair their ball marks. Quite disappointing.

The course was amazing, fairways were in amazing conditions, however some of the greens were rough.

Great layout and challenging for all levels of golfers
Too bad the pro shop was closed to customers as would have liked to see if they had anything I liked to add to my collection of memorabilia. It was a typical NC weather day with extreme humidity and high temperature which takes away a lot of the fun of playing golf. All in all I am looking forward to playing again soon.

Very difficult
Very difficult course. Need to hit it straight or you are in trouble. Was hoping for better pace of play. Pushed the entire back 9 and was not enjoyable. Finished the round in just under 4 hours. Probably about 30 minutes to fast for a course of this difficulty.
