About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great track... getting better every year!
I have been playing LP for over 10 years now... and it's been a real treat to see this course evolve into a true gem. For years people have spoken of LP at the 3rd best college course in the area... today... I hear more and more people rate it right up there... if not above Duke GC.
I am a walker and this course has a couple of long treks from green to tee early in the round, but from the 3rd tee on this is a wonderful walking course. The back nine is one of the best walks in the Triangle!
Great variety of holes and shot selections... my favorites are the very tough #5... and the back to back strength of 11 and 12. 11 is one of the best par 5's around... with amazing views of most of the back nine and Raleigh skyline in the distance. And the finish on 18 is as good as it gets!
The course is awesome, but the staff makes this place my golf home. Chip and Nick and their entire team run a great course... they have been a true life saver keeping the course open and in the most amazing shape the last 12 weeks of Covid-19!
I would recommend LP to any player... and if you want to really test your game move to the Black or State tees for all your can handle.

My favorite course out of all college courses in the triangle.
This golf course is well maintained and greens are fast. I love everything about this place, mainly Because it is fun and difficult for me.

Definitely a unique course
Course was in excellent shape and I was more concerned about the cart turning off when I was “in a restricted area.” I am sorry for driving in the rough about two yards from the fairway. The layout is confusing if you have not played the course before. For Example, #2 & #8 and #4 & #6 are very likely to make you have to think rather than just follow the path.
The course does have several moments of awe-inspiring nature and a great view of downtown.
Will play again only when less than $60. With prices upwards of $80—-you are better off playing UNC Finley in Chapel Hill.

Great day golf
Great course, bring down to reality, after playing other course which make feel good, this course is real thing< pace play was good and course good condition. Don’t have be long hitter but need be accurate ball striker,once again hD good day golfing even kn bad holes hard get upset.

LP one of the best in the Triangle. Staff is indifferent. Ranger doesn’t do anything to speed up play

It's Legit
I'm a high handicap golfer and this course makes you think about each and every shot that you take. I recommend not playing for par, but rather playing to keep your ball playable. The course offers plenty of elevation changes and also water hazards. Playing the course 2 times or more may give you the comfort that you need. I recommend bringing a range finder and playing to your abilities. Maybe even move up a tee box the first time. It is a hard course and it lives up to its ranking.

This course will make you a better golfer
Difficult course, but in great shape and managed very well. You need to be able to think your way around the course and make good misses. You need to be creative, which gives opportunity to try many types of shots around greens. However, don’t forget to look around at the beautiful views and rolling hills! Wonderful golf course

Excellent Greens
Bent grass greens are excellent right now....very true and probably rolling around 11 on the stimp. Fairways are thin/damp. Greens surrounds are spongy. A great layout (they have a new scorecard with yardages adjusted from previous cards).....just play from the correct tees, stay out of the bunkers and native areas and you'll have a blast!
NC needs less rain and more heat for the Bermuda fairways to kick in.....wait for June.
