Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University

This was a nice course. It's pricey and well equipped. Layout was great. Bunkers everywhere. Course is not difficult but some bunkers are like why would it be right there. Greens were fast and well kept. And some holes have a wild left to right slope. Locker room was nice. complimentary soap and shampoo. Practice area was nice but no place to chip. Carts were quiet with club and ball cleaning tools. Pace of play was nice. Plenty of sand for divots available. On course bathrooms are nice and plentiful. I will go back when another GN deal appears.

Lonnie Poole GC is a great layout and is meticulously maintained. Greens are firm, fast and true. Holes and fairways take advantage of the natural lay of the land creating a pleasant experience with enough variation to make every hole interesting. Our round was cart path only but completed the round in 4:15.

Views are greats, lots of elevation, there are a number of tough holes. Overall Great Course

After a good amount of rain, it was expected that the course would be wet, but it was still in good shape. They used hitting mats on the par 3's in order to save the grass (I think they may do this all winter long), which I thought would detract from the experience, but it didn't. The greens were in great shape and the bunkers were all dry. The problem I had was with the course's very strict policies. The only chipping area is between holes #2 and #3 - nowhere near the clubhouse - so I took out a low chipping club (PW) and started hitting some short, low chips on the putting green, and the ranger immediately told me no chipping. My feet were doing more damage to the putting green just walking around than the balls. They're also very incessant about pace of play. I'm happy that they keep up with that, but they focus so much on how far you are behind the "expected" pace rather than how far you are behind the group in front of you. They didn't seem to take into account that it was carts on path due to the wet conditions. They still expected a 4 hour pace, and even suggested we skip a hole to catch up even though we were within a hole of the group in front of us, and we weren't being pushed from behind at all. It can take you off your game when you feel hurried, and that doesn't make for a fun experience.

Consider it was after several rainy days, the condition was very good. Pace of play could be a bit faster but it is a weekend and 4:15 round is not too bad. Had a drink after the round, the bar/restaurant serves its purpose well too.

My group had a 10:40 tee time, but when we arrived the course had experienced a frost delay of 1 1/2 hours. The starter worked diligently to get all groups off in a timely fashion. I was very impressed with his efforts and we didn't have to wait more than 40 minutes.

The course was in great condition and the greens were excellent. Always enjoy playing this course.

This course has all the right challenges of short and long holes as it keeps you guessing where the flag might be each time you play. Greens and fairways are in great shape!

Great course, but on the tee they said cart path only. It hadn’t rained in 4 days and the course was dry. There was moisture near the drains, but cart path only was not needed. It made the round much less fun. It is very hilly and spread out.

Dormant fairways this time of year, carts on path all winter most likely. Greens were in good shape, too many ball marks. My Christmas wish is that people would actually start fixing their ball mark and one other. What a wonderful world this could be! Wicked fast downhill, do not get above the hole!

I’ve played all the local courses and Lonnie Poole is by far the best. It is a very challenging Arnold Palmer layout. Greens can be tough to read, but generally fair. Course is typically in very good condition. Friendly staff and rangers push to maintain a 4-hr pace of play.

The course was in great shape and greens were quick for December. Arnold Palmer design gives plenty of fairway and bunkers. Amazing view of Raleigh and some of the NC State campus on one the best par 5's I have ever played. Definitely my favorite course in the triangle.

The course really is in great shape in the winter months. They have been doing a lot of clearing in the hazards as well, the course is unrecognizable from summer growth.

Keep doing what you are doing guys. Best course in the triangle. Will be a package holder for years to come.

Poole is in winter conditions.....dormant Bermuda fairways, a little thin, native area rough is brutal as always! Greens were running 11 on the stimp......very true and quick.....it's a shame there were so many unrepaired ball marks. I fixed 4-5 on every hole.

Played in under 3 hours.....great layout if you play from the correct tees!
