Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University

"AWESOME" is the first worth that came into my mind after I finished my first 9-holes at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The amazement started with the great practice facilities to ensure that I was ready to play and it continued when I hopped into the golf cart to find a GPS tablet in there!! The GPS tablet was extremely useful to find distances when laying up, something that could not be done with a range finder. Very Cool! The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling nicely. This allowed me to shoot a fairly low score for my level. The Clubhouse is very well done and the bathrooms are so nice!!! I would disregard any negative review that people have made on this golf course, this is the best golf course in Raleigh area and it is well worth the rates that they charge. I will be coming back every weekend from now on!!

First time playing the course, I go to hit a putt on the practice green. And hit it 10 feet and it goes 20! Yes, it was downhill, but you cannot fall asleep on these greens- or your score will reflect it!

Poor pace of play. Quirky layout. Some nice views and in decent shape.

This is a great facility that is our go to place to play. Even with the extremely wet weather the course is still in good condition and the greens are outstanding!!

played on a wet drury day on a 40 dollar voucher which was a good deal. Course plays long and is challenging. Lots of sand. Course was in ok shape for being in January. Greens were very large and rolled true. Pace of play was great due to bad weather.
I would play it again gladly.

The starter: Rude and inconsiderate to non-members.

Pro shop Staff: Rude and unprofessional.

Computers in the cart. The cart turns off in certain areas of the course. Computer told us the course was closed then said return to the club house.

Hole 18 staff removed 18 pin before we got to the green.

A good course and good mix of hole length. Most holes are hilly. Holes are far apart so walking is not really reasonable. Greens can be pretty difficult with huge drops in center of green. Liked that the carts come with LCD screens, but the brakes are absolute absurd. Squealing the whole round from our carts, and carts on other holes.

Course is good, but the associates made us play quickly even if we were not slow. We finished 18 holes in 4hr and 5 min. How quickly should we play? Otherwise, good golf course.

Was fortunate to be put with three great guys that had all played the course before the help and great course conditions made for a superb day on a very challenging course if you use your head and know your capabilities you can shoot a good round at this venue not to be missed

Absolutely love the layout at Lonnie Poole. Long and challenging with generous fairways, large greens and spectacular visuals with the bunkers.

The three university courses in the area are all good but this is my favorite.

Course conditions were very good. Greens, tees, rough and bunkers all excellent. Fairways a little shaggy though, definitely needed to be cut.

Can't wait to play again!!!

This course is very long for an older man like me. 3 par 5's on the front nine and several on the back make the day very challenging. I felt good shooting 89.

The rough was crazy long. I went out as a single and I'm pretty fast and I was getting run over by single golfers who seemed to work there, go to school there, or are on the golf team. It's out of control. Everytime I look behind me there's someone waiting by themselves in a golf cart! The worst thing about this course is that a small bucket of balls before the round cost 7.00 !! There's 35 balls and I find that totally crazy. Unbelievable over priced ! 20 cents per ball crazy. Marshall kept coming around and around non - stop which was a nuisance. Course needs to put yardage markers at 100, 125, 150, 175 etc, etc......Will not return for awhile ounce again.

I like Lonnie Poole. It's definitely not for high handicappers, but it's not impossible . It played very long in wet conditions. I would definitely play again for the discounted rate.

Well maintained course friendly staff! Course was busy we never felt rushed

This is probably my second favorite course since I've moved here to NC. This course is challenging from the tips but allows for scoring on some holes. The overall facility is awesome, great practice area, it is WAY better than UNC and right there with DUKE. The overall conditions were very good, still some winter kill, which was somewhat disappointing given a University course and their budget but still nice. The golf carts with the Ipad GPS was nice but it sucks because they have trackers on them and shut off when driving in certain areas, that was the only bad thing. For some reason it was cart path only when I played even though the fairways were dry but again its a University course so they can be quirky. Overall I would highly recommend given some of the prices you can get on GNOW. I will return.

Unfortunately I have played this course several times before and it has been a much better experience. I regret not leaving reviews after those rounds, but I felt compelled to do so this time. This was the worst experience I have had at Lonnie Poole. My first issue was with the girl at the snack bar. No personality and did not seem to know what she was doing. I also do not like that I had to wait until 11:00am to get a Bloody Mary, but that was the least of my concerns. The glaring issue this day was out on the course. I think every hole had some ground under repair. I also felt as though every hole had some maintenance guy screwing around doing something or other with no regard to the oncoming golfers. This is a pet peeve on a golf course. I have previously worked course maintenance, and know that these guys should have all this work complete by early morning. We teed off around 11am and these guys should have been scarce. It's ironic too since the course conditions were the worst I have seen. Blame gets put on the weather and climate, but unless it's a real drought like California is having, then there really are no excuses for poor course conditions. I hope it's better the next time I come here, but in the meantime I'll stick to playing UNC Finley.

First time playing course in a month or 2, but course is in nice shape considering the heat. Had to replace sod in some spots from winter but doesn't really impact round. Rough is pretty tough so hitting down fairway is always a good idea. Definitely will come back again, especially after first hole in one on 17.
