Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University

The course was having some work done. Quite a few fairways with patchwork grass or large sod areas stil growing in. Greens were below average and not fully grown in. Could be a great course when healthy.

Really enjoyed playing Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Great view of the Raleigh skyline and the course was beautiful. Some dead spots, and construction going on but overall nice course.

Wide fairways but lots of blind shots but if you play here a few times it could be more fun

Great facilities at the course to support NC State golf team and students. I love the course layout but it's still new course so course conditions not fantastic. I'd come back and play this course again!

Cart path only on 5-6 holes on day of play. Much work underway to repair winter kill. Greens recently aerated but fairly true in spite of. By no means an easy course but really fun to play! Can't wait to return!

Parts of the golf courseware in wonderful shape. However, there are several holes that have significant winter kill in there fairways. Those fairways are closed to carts.
The pace of play, however, was extraordinarily slow. It took 2 hours and 50 minutes to play 9 holes on a Tuesday afternoon (1:40 p.m. start time). Apparently that pace, although 40 minutes longer than what the course expects, didn't bother the staff. There was no effort to move folks along. We finally gave up at the 13th tee.

Beautiful course so close to downtown Raleigh. More of a player's course could be brutal for beginning players. Has some growing to do being so new, but will get better and better.

Played Lonnie Poole on Tuesday. The layout is very difficult for long hitters playing the back tees as its designed to handle division I NCAA Golf. I didn't mind the challenge, but for the price of the round I was disappointed with the condition of the greens. The greens had many ball marks and overall were not to the same level of quality as the rest of the course. They weren't terrible by any means, but just were not what I had expected from such a nice place. I have played much cheaper courses with better rolling greens. The starter did tell us that the winter left dead spots in the fairways which was true, but I can overlook that and the rest of the grass on the fairways was excellent. For less money equal if not better conditions can be had.

Beautiful views. Challenging. Exceptional course condition and facilities.

The clubhouse is incredible, the range is great with plenty of greens to hit to. The course is hilly with amazing views and long grass everywhere. The course is mostly wide open off the tee. The front nine is fun with some good holes, but the back nine is very challenging with some of the best views a downtown course could ever have. Some of the fairways were burned out a little and no one repairs their divot on this course. The course was absolutely packed but pace was pretty good. Very very fun course with every hole unique.

I hate that I love playing this course! This was about the 5th or 6th time I have and I always leave feeling well challenged.

Greens are still in good shape. Winter really hurt a couple fairways.

Rangers were a little pushy considering it was cart path only.

Unfortunately, had a terrible experience playing at Lonnie Poole, which used to be one of my favorite golf courses. I've played it several times since it's been open, and even took lessons from Jeremy W, but I have never seen the course in such bad shape, from the fairways being in terrible condition, to the greens (including the collars around the greens being in really bad shape). I provided my feedback to the course via their website, in hopes that I would receive some sort of response/explanation as to the poor conditions, but it's been about 3 weeks now, and no word back. Unfortunately, I will not be returning anytime soon (probably the rest of this year), unless I'm assured conditions have drastically improved. For the price they want, there are too many other options that are in good shape, at the bare minimum, to waste money. Has so much potential, and previously one of the nicer courses around the area...next time, I'll make a different choice (UNC Finley, and I'm not even a Tarheel fan, but great golf course or Duke-even more pricey but always in GREAT shape). Sorry to have to report that LPGC was tore up!

The course was still suffering from winter kill on many fairways so they were cart path only. Despite that they were still very playable. It is a great course. Super, scenic layout. Enough bite to make you think about things. I'm an average boogie golfer but I prefer that in a course. I've played 100s of course in the US and international and this course is memorable.

staff was very friendly and accomadating. The course set-up is unique and challenging, but the conidtioins of the course were pretty bad. Entire area around most of the greens and the actual greens themselves were pretty awful, can't imagine it will be any better thru the entire summer, it was like putting on honeycomb.

Course was in good shape. Pace of play was slow. Greens were recently plugged so a return trip may be weeks off.

All I can say is wow this course blew my mind I have never golfed a course like this in my life. The layout the hills the bunkers the trees from Tee to green everything blew my mind. I would play this course every week if I can afford it. I felt like I was playing Masters course. Try to play this course if u can.

Was really looking forward to playing after walking the course during the 2014 NCAA regional men's tourney. Course was in excellent shape last year. Course today was in very poor condition. Many brown, dead fairways and collars around the greens. Greens are fast but thin and don't look very good. Don't know if severe winter is to blame but this course has a long way to get back to where it was last year. For reference purposes, I have played many top courses in superb shape including Baltusrol and Bethpage Black, and this course today is in need of a lot of work to improve its condition.

The layout is fantastic, excellent variety of holes and elevation changes combined with beautiful scenery. The fairways are still brown and patchy in some spots but that's to be expected this time of year. Greens were in great shape and the topography made reading them challenging. The course was crowded and the pace of play suffered (over 5 hrs). Can't wait to come back when everything is green, will surely give it 5 stars then
