Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University

Booked a 3-some on Golfnow. Upon arriving in the pro shop was told their computers were down and quoted a different price than what I booked it online for. I showed the email receipt from Golfnow but still uncertain what I was charged as the young man behind the counter said he could only write my credit card info down and could not print me a receipt either. So far, not impressed. At that time, I specifically asked to not pair anyone with us. We were told the course was wide open and to head to the tee when we choose. Starter at the tee was EXCELLENT, by the way and marshal on the course was great too. However, we were told that the pro shop asked to pair up a senior single with us. With respect to all that deserve to have others not golf alone, that wasn't a problem. However, they proceeded to send 3 twosomes in a row out after us...POOR PLANNING on the pro shop's part. On top of that, the course was the worst conditions of GREENS that we played all year. REALLY disappointed for the price we paid. No warnings on the website. Amazing for the fact that this is the NCSU course, and an AG school at that. Bunkers were also poorly maintained, especially on the weekend. Was shocked prior to the time we had played this before. $25 public course at best. Fairways were in great shape, in all fairness. Half of the staff was friendly and the other half looked lost. Starter-GREAT, beverage cart-GREAT and cart guys after the round GREAT....shop staff and restaurant staff not so much...no one smiled and seemed miserable with slow service before and after the round. I feel badly for my group as I convinced them to pay $21 more than another suggested course to play this place. Would never come back here in the near future and especially for the rate. I am sure after reading this they really wouldn't want me to return either.

I had been telling my brother lets go play Lonnie Poole for over a month. He has never played it for a score, only in tournaments. When we got there the practice putting greens were closed but they looked very green and nice. When I saw them I was thinking wow the greens are going to be awesome. We got to hole 1 and a gentleman was teeing up. He asked if we had ever played the course and we said yes...he said don't be mad at the greens. He stated they were the worst he has ever seen. He was right they were the worst I have ever seen. For this to be NC STATE course which is agricultural school I was shocked and disappointed. I can not believe how bad the greens were. They had been closed for over two weeks before to let the greens heal...well they must never healed Lonnie Poole. Next time please tell people who are paying there hard even money to play there that your greens are very bad. For it to cost the money you are asking I would expect better. There are courses here in the Triangle that cost way lest than you guys and the greens are way better. Lower your prices until your greens are playable or shut the course down until you can fix the greens. Please let us know next time hole 17 which is a par 4 is now a par 3. You guys are way better than this...FIX IT. Want be back until I hear that the greens are better.

This course has an interesting layout and beautiful views of the Raleigh skyline. It is very challenging course with blind shots and unlevel lies. The fairways and rough were in good condition, however many of the greens barely had grass on them. Was told it had been a particularly bad season for the type of grass.

A buddy set this up through GolfNow. They are under aerification recovery conditions but I don't think they should have charged $35! A bit steep for sketchy greens. Practice putting greens closed so guess how the greens will roll (not mentioned on GolfNow). The par 5 #3 was being worked on so it's now a par 3 and hole 18 is supposed to be a par4 but played nearly 500 yards!

They are proud of their course and it's reflected in their rates.

This is a great course and a challenging one. I love playing it, I was a bit disappointed with the repairs that we're going on while out and that we were not told in advance that 3 holes would be shortened.

This will not discourage me from playing again but rather calling in advance for an update.

Recently moved into the area from PA. Got a great deal on GolfNow and decided to try this course out even though 45 minutes away near Chapel Hill. Really great course a bit more difficult than other courses I have played so far. Need to play a few times to get the course knowledge to score better. Staff was really friendly and amenities top notch. Slow day at the course. Played with another golfer who was playing for first time so we struggled finding our way. A couple of hole locations could have cart path hole direction signs better marked. Biggest criticism would be the greens. Many ball marks near hole location indicating either they don't move the hole locations frequent enough or far enough away from previous locations. Greens are huge so this could easily be affected. Pace of play was great. We played in 3:50. Would play again, but only if I got a GolfNow deal like I did. Not worth full price listed. I guess it's location and frequency of play dictate their prices. A bit far for me to play regularly.

The greens were great. Fortunately I played pretty well and putted extremely well, but I really think the bent greens here are about some of the best in the area. Many courses have moved to the champion ultra dwarf bermuda due to the heat we experience here in NC and while I like those greens I still don't think they are as nice as great bent greens.

This course can be very challenging, so make sure you check your ego at the car before teeing off and play the right tees, otherwise it will be a long day.

Love this course, if you pick the right time and can get around relatively quickly.

Okay, Arnold course right in middle of Raleigh with Raleigh skyline and brand new clubhouse is nice but dang, do you have to pay for the clubhouse in 1 year? With $82 a round at 3:50 on a Saturday it appears you do! Decent layout with what he was given but nothing about the course layout, routing or condition is even close to this rate. Finley is clearly ONE full star above this course and they only charge $72. Range is uphill and you can only see low irons land, anything past 6 iron lands off in distance and you can't see it. NO short game area whatsoever. Cut the rate in half and it's a bargain1

Paid only $38.00 on a Wednesday 12:00 tee time. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Our group seen at least two rangers which kept things moving. We finished just under 4 hours with a group of four. Greens, fairways, rough, and bunkers were in fantastic shape. Tee boxes were okay at best but everything was perfect. Can't wait to go back!

Played here many times over the past few years. The conditions this time were some off the best I've experienced. Staff was great as always. Pace was right at 4 hours for the 4 some group in front of us so We never really had to wait. Greens rolled very true. Didn't measure but I'd guess they were rolling probably a 10 or an 11. Only gripes were the tee boxes on all of the par 3's. They were very bad. Just about no grass. Very surprising after hitting off of all off the other nicely groomed tee boxes. I haven't played here yet this year as the price is imo way to too high for the area. Allot of great golf can be had in the Raleigh area for under $50 and without any deals LP is $82??? I happen to catch a golfnow deal for a single. Over all the course is great but expensive to play often.

Golf course is a challenge is you are used to playing many of the other courses in the area. Many of the greens are well protected with bunkers that seem to reach up and snag an otherwise great approach shot. I feel the course it expensive as compared to the other courses in the area, and really could not see any additional value to justify the extra expense. Other than that, it was an enjoyable round.

Lonnie Poole is not my favorite course to play in the Raleigh area, but definitely not the worst either. There are some quirky holes I'm not a fan of, but I like the course overall. Staff is always friendly and the golf shop has everything you need, especially if you're a NC State fan. Greens were in great shape. Scale of 1-10, I'd give the course a strong 7 or 8.

I played here last Saturday as a foursome. The pace of place was ok, probably waited 3-5 minutes per hole to tee off. For starters, keep your ball in the fairway at all costs. The long, wavy grass will devour your ball and you'll lose one that simply rolled 4/5 feet off course. If you aren't used to bunkers, get used to them because there are a lot. All in all the course is very nice, the small bucket of balls with each round is a good touch. Each cart has an tablet with GPS that you can use to keep score and gives you yardage to the green which is a very awesome perk. My biggest complaint would be the price, I understand it's a top tier course for the area but $82 for 18 holes seems a bit steep. If you haven't played here I recommend trying it at least once. Hit em straight!

Track is very demanding. The greens and fairways were in great shape. The fringes were burnt out though. Other than that everything else was excellent.

Great layout, makes you hit all clubs in your bag, rewards great shots and has tee boxes for different handicaps

Staff was great. We're from Ohio but we enjoy playing the course when we come to Raleigh.

Course conditions are always great, staff is always friendly. Pace of play is horribly slow. As a 3 person group, we finished in 5 hours and spent most of the day sitting at the tee box chatting, sitting in the fairway chatting and in general watching the group in front of us disregard any pace of play warnings. They would not let us play through either. 5-10 minutes spent overthinking your next shots ruined an otherwise great day for golf.
