Lanier Islands Resort - Legacy Golf Course
About
With an excellent location surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains to one side and overlooking Georgia's Great Lake on the other, Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course provides the perfect setting for a round of golf. The diverse, rolling landscape ranges from dense forest to open meadows to pristine beaches. Water has a strong presence throughout the golf course, coming into play on 12 holes. Many of them play right along the lake's shoreline. At 6,580 yards, the course is not particularly long but it is still a formidable challenge for long hitters since it requires quite a few demanding carries over the water. One of the most memorable holes for this reason is the par-4 12th, which presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity if you dare to cut the corner.

Lanier
Fantastic course. Kept it difficult but if you play smart you really can enjoy the difficulties it sends your way from going over the water to having to hit out of tiered bunkers. Bunker sand was absolutely perfect being nice and fluffy and fairways were extremely pure.
Great course
Absolutely great course with stunning views of lake Lanier. Go on warm days and enjoy all the boats, scenery, and occasional heckler for any water balls. Perfect place to bring a significant other to ride along and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Shamrock Scramble
Played in the Shamrock Scramble Sun March 15th. While we had a good time the shape of the course was not very good.I brought out 3 buddies that had never played there and was telling them how great the course was. I have played here several times and this by far was the worse shape it has been in.The tee boxes were all sanded, several fairways were washed out and the greens were not up to par.Hopefully the warm weather will bring this course back to what it was last year.
The pro staff is crazy.
On Wednesday, March 4th, our group of 12 had confirmed tee times at 1:00 PM, 1:10 PM, and 1:20 PM. While the front nine proceeded without issue, we encountered an unacceptable situation starting at the 10th hole.
Despite having consecutive tee times for our 12 players, we suddenly found a group of 5 women on the 10th green and another individual woman cutting ahead of us to the 11th tee. This effectively forced a 5-some and a single player directly between our 1:00 PM and 1:10 PM groups.
When we contacted the clubhouse, we were initially told a marshal would be sent to mediate. However, we later discovered this was a lie. The male staff member at the clubhouse had intentionally directed those 6 players (who had only paid for 9 holes) to jump into the back nine because the front nine was occupied by a junior tournament.
The staff member’s actions were fundamentally flawed for the following reasons:
Allowing a 5-some to play, which is against standard golf etiquette and slows down the entire course.
Inserting extra players into the middle of a pre-booked 12-person group, disrupting our pace and experience.
Selling tee times that did not exist. By overbooking the front nine for juniors, he chose to "sacrifice" our 18-hole experience to accommodate 9-hole walk-ins.
Most appalling was the staff member's attitude. When we confronted him, he showed no remorse and threatened us by saying: "Do you want a 9-hole rain check, or should I give you a full refund and ban you from coming back here again?"
Using a refund as a threat to "ban" customers who are rightfully complaining about poor management is unheard of in professional business. He chose to lose the revenue of twelve 18-hole players and tarnish the course's reputation just to accommodate six 9-hole players. We have taken the full refund and intend never to return, but we want it documented that this was a blatant failure of management and customer service.
A Must Play!
Wonderful course with many beautiful views. Can't wait to play THE SIX later this year.
Always a treat to play here
Very scenic with many holes bordering the lake. Course was in decent shape considering the time of year. They are
Doing a major renovation to the clubhouse and I can’t wait to see the finished product. I noticed they have closed the range and building a 6 hole lighted short course. Practice area is at a minimum.
Excellent course very fun and challenging in the staff was great
Great day on the Links at Lanier Islands
It was a perfect morning on the links at Lanier Islands. The weather was warm with no much wind and the course was in great shape. Greens were rolling smooth and the fairways were nice and tight and not a weed in sight. Love that all the high grass in the roughs was cut down and the views were outstanding of the lake with 14 holes on the course having views of Lake Lanier. I like to call it "Pebble Beach Atlanta."
Wonderful and very nice staff as well. Very accommodating!
Thanks for a great day on the links!
Lanier Legacy Review
Winter course conditions are a 4 out of 5.
Pace was very good.
Clubhouse renovations are ongoing which limits parking, range access, & amenities.
When construction is completed later this spring this course is going to be a dynasty.
Avoid Lake Lanier
Lake Lanier is usually a solid course to play, but at the moment the drawbacks outweigh the value. The driving range is under construction, the clubhouse is also under construction, restrooms are not operational, and the food and beverage offerings are subpar. Hopefully, once all the construction is complete, the course will regain its value from a playing and overall experience standpoint.
Best course in Atlanta
This is one of the best courses to play in metro Atlanta. Very scenic course. The course is always in great condition. Staff is very friendly. You have to hit straight to score well on this course.
Great and fun Golf Course
What a great day at Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course!
Staff was very nice and accommodating. They are always wonderful there. Course was fun and challenging! Great, fast and true greens. Very scenic golf with 14 holes on the lake. Highly recommend!
Course is always greatly maintained
The course is always greatly maintained even in the off-season. The greens are fast and True. And the renovation of the range into a lighted part three course is going to be a phenomenal addition.
Our home course
We love playing Legacy. It’s been about 15 years playing there. Players card over the years has made it at least semi affordable. Golf is expensive anywhere you go so go play this golf course. Greens are fast course in great shape.,staff is the best
This course has a great layout
Legacy has a great layout with good Bermuda greens and a very friendly staff I would recommend that everyone play this course for the beautiful layout!
