Lanier Islands Resort - Legacy Golf Course
About
With an excellent location surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains to one side and overlooking Georgia's Great Lake on the other, Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course provides the perfect setting for a round of golf. The diverse, rolling landscape ranges from dense forest to open meadows to pristine beaches. Water has a strong presence throughout the golf course, coming into play on 12 holes. Many of them play right along the lake's shoreline. At 6,580 yards, the course is not particularly long but it is still a formidable challenge for long hitters since it requires quite a few demanding carries over the water. One of the most memorable holes for this reason is the par-4 12th, which presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity if you dare to cut the corner.

Excellent package
DOWNSIDE. We lost multiple balls in the 'first cut off the fairway'. Perhaps it was Monday and the rough needed mowed or it was July/August in Georgia.
Beautiful Track
This is a very scenic course along the shores of Lake Lanier. Played from the Blue Tees and found the course moderately challenging with some carries over water. The greens were a bit rough from earlier aeration and could use some watering to help them heal faster. Friendly staff and a recommended course.
Thanks for the review!
Beautiful Course, Beautiful Views and Awesome Setting
The weather was hot and muggy today, but since the course has so many beautiful golf holes right along the shores of Lake Lanier, there was a nice breeze most of the afternoon that helped make the day even that much better.
The course is in great shape. The greens are still coming in a little as far as being lush and nice with grass, but nothing to complain about.
It is also AWESOME that your greens fees includes all the drinks, snacks, hotdogs, Blimpie sandwiches you want. It is a first class place. I will definitely be back to play time and time again!!!
Thank you for your review!
Great round of golf that ended on a slightly sour note
First of all...the staff were great and incredibly friendly. This course is a bit pricey compared to others but the amenities included make it all inclusive (range balls and all food and beverage are included). The course was in nice shape the greens rolled true and moderately fast. I was the first tee time that morning and had the course to myself. I will be back to play it again.
The one negative: at the turn I was hungry (had nothing to eat since previous afternoon) and stopped into the concession area and they had sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits. I grabbed 2 and proceeded to the back nine. They were both fresh and hot so I didn't think anything about them. I finished the round and on the way home started to feel poorly...few hours later I was physically sick with food poisoning. It was not a fun 24 hours. It had to have been the biscuits as I had nothing else to eat before or after. This has nothing to do with the golf, the conditions of the course but just wanted everyone to beware as food/beverage is included with your round price. I'm sure this was an isolated incident and I bear no ill will. Sometimes accidents happen.
Good course with very nice lake views
I enjoy playing Legacy on Lanier (Emerald Point) despite a few very challenging holes. The management and staff typical keep the course in good condition. Course conditioning for this round was a bit below their normal standards, but there were no serious issues. The greens were quick and smooth, but a bit brown for early April. Pace of play on the front nine was slow. Fortunately, the back nine pace was good. It seemed that there was a good effort by the staff to manage play. I highly recommend this course when the price is not too high.
Note: I rate golf courses on an absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities, outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues. I take pace of play very seriously.
A 5-hour round is a minimum two star reduction.
Thanks for the review. We always try to keep pace of play under 4 hours 30 minutes, it's sometimes a challenge but we do everything possible to adhere to that standard. The greens are in very good shape and rolling well, it's just that time of year, transitioning from dormancy, that leads to a slightly different color . We do not paint our greens through the Winter. Thanks again for the comments!
Pebble Beach of the South
That's what they used to call this course!
While a significant overstatement, the course itself, with the location and beautiful views, is truly exceptional.
Well worth the drive from Atlanta.
Bermuda greens roll true, but are challenging due to undulations. Course overall in great shape.
Thanks for the review, we appreciate your comments!
In Good Shape
Legacy on Lanier provides the golfer with a good but fair test. The course was in better than average condition for the end of March with nearly perfect maintenance. The greens were firm and running at a good pace. However, the course is wet which is somewhat typical.
Thank you for your review. The Superintendent and his staff appreciate your comments on the condition of the golf course.
Great scenic course
If your average score is a 100 and you don't have a long drive do yourself a favor and play off the red tees on a lot of the holes. It's a great course with friendly staff and a nice concept of food and drinks included in the price. A good idea would also be to familiarize yourself with the course layout as there are many brutal surprises if you don't. Was both a frustrating and enjoyable experience. If you are a senior don't try to hit from the same tees as your youngsters.. I know better next time!
Thank you for your review!
best maintained course nearby
From the blue tees this course is 6200 yds. It played like a 7000 yd course. Fairways were very tight and driver distances will get you in trouble on a significant number of holes. Several long carries to small landing areas across coves in the lake. Elevation changes added to the difficult club selections. They really need to add signage to inform you of required carry distances. The most beautiful and best maintained course in the area by far.
Thank you for your review. We always try to identify first time players and recommend yardage books. We apologize if that did not happen yesterday. There certainly are some challenging holes. We appreciate your positive review of the golf course and hope you will come back soon.
Wait for the rain to come!
Pete Dye would blush at this layout under current conditions and say "Yeah, Maybe I went a bit to far!". The layout here is incredibly tough. Blind tees shots to narrow fairways are common and often, nay, nearly always include danger out of view. With no GPS in the carts, no hole images on the tees, card or in the cart I found myself cursing not buying a course guide as it is essential unless you wish to guess at carries and enjoy continual nasty surprises. Relief that you made the green is short lived as they are very quick, have few flat areas and again are somewhat blind with perimeter undulations to kick around the shots you thought were not your best but good enough.
Layout aside the course is beautiful. Well maintained with great views of the lake and subtle features (like the accent grass around the bunkers) make this one of the most picturesque courses around.
Okay, back to the complaining! The main issue at the moment is the firmness of the fairways and greens. Getting those kinds of bounces and so much run on blind shots to small targets is enough to drive anyone insane. A recommended course but wait for the rain (if we ever get any), buy the course guide ($3) and steel yourself for a fight.
Course management - please consider putting hole images somewhere and carry yardages on the tees of the relevant holes for those whom didn't buy the vital information. It would make the round so much more enjoyable if not taxing our math skills!
Greens
Very fast on the particular day I played which is fine however it was for every hole not just a majority which I had never seen before.
total relaxation
very good sandwiches and soft drinks provided in the green fee price. all the range balls you want to hit. enough breath taking views of lake lanier to put you to sleep and great weather. some sidehill pin placements that drove me crazy. a truly great day of golf.
Great Course with Great Views
Very good golf course, views of the lake are outstanding, well worth the price.
A scenic treat
First, a great value as the fee includes cart, green fees, range balls and food and drinks. From quick breakfast items to hot dogs. The staff and marshall are very friendly and helpful and we were able to tee off early which was great. The course is a challenge for any level of golfer but the sheer beauty seems to balance the occasional frustration of a missed putt. One of Georgia's must play courses. And for late summer greens and fairways were in excellent shape.
Call Ahead
7/16/16 The greens were badly punched. Every green was a sand box. Call ahead to check. Really unfortunate because the rest of the course, I mean tee boxes and fairways etc, were perfect. Definitely not worth the price for the bad greens. If the greens match the rest of this course, it will be worth every penny.
AWESOME course with beautiful views of Lake Lanier
I loved playing Legacy at Lanier golf course.
I love it how one price includes EVERYTHING. You pay for your golf then food, beverages, snacks are all included. Even the range balls are included in the price. The course is in excellent condition. The greens roll true and are fast. The wort thing about the greens is that nobody fixes their ball marks and there are ball marks all over the greens from lazy, careless golfers who do not fix their ball marks.
I will definately be back to play again and again. The views of the lake on almost every hole on the front nine is awesome. I saw deer on several holes as I played which made the round even more enjoyable.
An island in the middle of Lake Lanier
Most beautiful views in North Georgia. They had just punched the greens so they were pretty bad.
Hello,
I work at Legacy Golf Course and just wanted to thank you for your review but also point out that there was an alert on Golfnow, a message on our own website booking engine and our staff advised all customers of the aeration on July 5th. We do think that the alert was a little small on the Golfnow booking site though so we do apologize for that oversight. The greens are getting back to their normal excellent level and hope you will give us another try soon. Thank you for your review.

Legacy Golf Course
What a course
I'm from Chicago and down in Atlanta area visiting a friend.
I can not think of a more breath taking course that I've ever played. That includes Hawaii. What a great layout. I'd like to move to Atlanta just to play this more often. An absolute must play if you're in the area
Rediculous
Contrived, repetitive, silly! Idyllic site with a horrible routing. Extremely poor use of a fabulous site. The opening several holes are routed along water left and trouble right. Reasonably long forced carries over water that are unfair for shorter hitters, seniors or juniors. A few holes are missing the windmill or gorilla to shoot through. Would not recommend this as a serious course for anyone with an interest or understanding of golf. Courses like this dissuade novices golfers from playing golf.
Thanks for the review.
