About
Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

Great twilight nine
Such a joy to play when it’s not packed. Beast of a course. No real frills. Just great golf. Good greens. Rough a little penal. Plenty of range balls though to get locked-in before it gets real.
Laurel Hill. It takes some skill.

Amenities
The course does not have a bathroom on the course. At least they should have a Porto John on No 3 and No 12.. This is really unacceptable.

Best public course in northern VA
Layout is fantastic. No two holes alike. Greens in great conditions. Only frustration was the back 9 was rather slow. Love Laurel Hills.

Not Worth It
For $108 on a Sunday afternoon, you would expect conditions this time of year to be pretty good. This area has had plenty of great weather for course conditions to excel. I play a lot of different courses in this county and its neighboring counties and most are in great shape, especially the Montgomery County public courses which have green fees almost half the price, but their conditions are twice as good.. The greens at Laurel Hill are mediocre, most of the bunkers were not raked that day and looked as if sand was just dumped in them in piles, basically unplayable. I wouldn't expect this at a muni for half the price, but for this place, conditions just stink. I've played here several times over the years and this is the absolute worst I've seen here. Not to mention the annoying "Player Assistance" ranger who drove by us and mentioned out of the side of his mouth, "Try and keep up with the group ahead" as if we were not already waiting on them just about every hole. Not enjoyable at all. I won't be back.

Public (but pricey) gem
The best use of a former prison ever! Fairfax county really did it right in putting in a top-flight public golf course. It is expensive, now over $100 on the weekends. It’s very popular and not easy to get a tee time.during the week or weekend.
Lengthy off the tee. Large greens so know your yardage. 14-17 are a tough finish. 18 is a good.
Staff is much friendly. Great chipping and driving range.
I do not encouraged us golf course for high handicappers or beginner golfers. Please go to one of the easy Fairfax county public golf courses. This course is designed for medium and low handicappers. You’ll just be frustrated

Great Course, Terrible Bunkers
4 Star course, 2 star Bunkers. Literally almost no sand in center of all bunkers. Apparently they don’t care because management has been told for years. They use a bunker machine that pushes all the sand in the bunkers to the edges. Easy fix, but the arrogant management apparently doesn’t care. This course hosts the USGA Mid Amateur Tournament. I play the course 1-2 days a week. Also, the truth me it takes to get a hot dog and coffee is ridiculous. Course problems are management problems. Course staff are great. Members also not treated great from what I have heard. Membership prices now too high to even consider joining.
