About
Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

Great Course-Great Condition
This course was in amazing shape. The staff was friendly and got us off early.

Rough patch
I am a big fan of Laurell Hill GC, though hadn't teed it up there for 4-8 weeks. Seems the summer weather has contributed to bare spots and crab grass outbursts. It was pristine 8 weeks back, not so much now. Though the greens remain in good shape and soft.
One of the best in N. VA. The only problem is the players. My round was taking too long so I called the pro shop. One of the starters (very nice guy) came out and said that everyone was on pace but that was for a 4.5 hr. round. The fact that it's gotten that long is unacceptable. The D.C. metro area is chock full of a-holes that play from the wrong tees, don't fix their ball marks, rake bunkers, etc. So finding out that a 4.5 hr. round at Laurel Hill counts as legit is pathetic. It should be not more than 4 hrs. and all courses should enforce this. There are too many selfish jerks out there to count.
Beautiful Layout
Elevation change, tiered greens, firm conditions made this course very enjoyable to play.
Pure greens and a great challenge
Some of the best course conditions I've seen in Northern Virginia. Greens were pure. Fairways and rough were hanging on very well.
The starter would be more useful as a marshal. His obsession with not letting people load up on a golf cart more than 5 minutes prior to their tee time was bizarre. Guess that power is important to him or something.
Does not drain well after intermittent rain
The title says it all. Just surprised considering they had a member guest tournament the morning I played.
