Laurel Hill Golf Club

The course was soaked due to several days of steady rain.

Obviously, It was cart path only but but considering how much rain we got, the course was in very condition. The greens, as usual, was in very good (prob better than expected) .. the prime golfing season is here and looking forward to many rounds played there ..

My first time playing here and I really enjoyed the course. For being early April I was very happy to see that the fairways were green and overall the course was in great shape. It’s quite the challenge from the Blue tees or further back but definitely a lot of fun with good hole variety. I will certainly be coming back for another few rounds here this year.

First off - I absolutely love this course. Probably my favorite in the area. It is well kept, tough but fair, lots of fun, and a great value. But my last round there left a poor taste in my mouth. It really hurts to give this course a less than a 5 star review, but felt it was needed.

I played twice as a single on March 14th 2022. It was my birthday and I was hugely excited to spend it at one of my favorite courses!

I arrived and found no one at the restaurant (was hoping to get some coffee). Figured that was okay so headed to the starter to check in. From there, I was told that the course had a 2 cart per group max, and that I would be required to share a cart with someone I did not know unless I was willing to pay the $27 cart fee. In a pre-COVID era I think this might have been okay - but with all that has gone on I think it is fairly absurd that I would be asked to share a cart with someone I’ve never met. There were clearly enough carts available, and I could just have easily jumped in one of those carts. Probably would’ve helped pace of play and would’ve led to no issues.

In my first of the two rounds, the other person decided to pay the fee so we each got a cart. Notably - the course staff gave me a cart that they knew was “faulty” but decided to give it to me anyway. The cart would end up having trouble running throughout my day.

Anyway - the first round went well. No pace of play issues or anything. I came back to start my second round - and I was once again asked to share a cart. This time we did end up sharing - and while we got along and enjoyed the golf together it did not make up for the fact that this 2 cart per group rule is absurd and extremely unfair to myself and many other golfers who enjoy playing as a single. How should I be responsible to pay for a cart, when it wasn’t my choice to place me in a foursome in the first place??

The second round was still lots of fun. Again the golf is never an issue at Laurel Hill. I will say that this round (starting at around 3:30) had an extreme pace of play issue. We were forced to wait to tee off on every hole, usually for over 5 minutes. We were lucky to have finished our round. I believe this was due to one two some playing extremely slow ahead of all of us, and that’s on the golfer, but more effort should be made to spread out tee times and to make sure that golfers are keeping the pace. A staff member should be monitoring timing, and if someone rolls up to X tee and is behind time - they should be warned or forced to let others pass.

Ultimately this review hurts. I love Laurel Hill and will continue to play there often. But this cart rule ought to be reviewed given our current life circumstances with COVID. I never asked to be placed in a specific group, nor was I warned in advance of the potential for a cart fee. Ultimately if a group has 3 carts, I really don’t see how that hurts anyone. It probably speeds pace of play and keeps the customer happy. Why not embrace that?

Laurel Hill always impresses. Bunkers are well maintained and the course is consistently in a great playable condition.

Love this course, pace of play was great, greens a little slower than normal and grass not bad but not typical condition.

The course is fun to play, but long and challenging. It doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the course. Many of the fairways are open to drive and on the greens you can make putts. It’s just a scenic place to play.

Course is in decent shape given all the cold weather. Not bad for mid February.
