This course has great features
It’s an interesting course, with different types of challenges. Very helpful staff and friendly members.
Well maintained (excellent in fact) but a bit average
Been wanting to play here for many years as heard a lot about it so when I got the chance to play I jumped at it. Maybe because it was recommended so highly I expected more but was a bit underwhelmed. There are a few great holes but some very average ones as well. First is a really good hole (best on the course by some way), on the front 3rd, 7th & 9th are spot on. Back 9, 10th & 11th are quality, 16th is a sneaky challenge the rest are a bit dull. The greens are a bit shapeless with few undulations, I feel I'm being a bit negative here and know the effort it takes to make a great course so apologies, the condition was excellent to be fair and you can only work with what you've got.
3 Ball
The long fescue slowed us down a little but the fairways were generous, so our own fault for being there.
Greens
Played lots of times in the past but the greens were a let down
I know we have had lots of rain but it did little to make the game good when the greens were not even average
When you book you should be advised the putting green was not even open
Well looked after course
Got to the course, greeted with a nice welcome at the clubhouse, plenty of parking space in the car park, other golfers very friendly and willing to help with directions.
Very picturesque and the fairways and greens were well looked after.
Was having a nice game until the heavens opened and brought our game to an end on the tenth.shame.
Got back to clubhouse and and was offered a free 9 holes on a later date, very nice gesture.
Only small detail I can say is no ball washers or direction from hole to hole, otherwise 5 stars 😀
Barnard Castle
Challenging course, good condition, nice greens, very scenic with lots of wildlife
Will definitely play again 🌟 🌟🌟
Still on winter greens
Still ln winter greens near the end of April. First cut is far too long and I spent a long time looking for golf balls that didn’t warrant it so. Club is doing something with the majority of the greens at the end of April hence the winter greens …. Possible only 4 out of 18 greens were actually open.
Dreadful
I can't comment on all of the course, as half of it was closed, however, the holes which were open were pretty much waterlogged. Only a few greens weren't temporary, fairways were soaked and covered in debris, so led to losing balls even when hit straight. All in all, this course should not have been open, and even though I was informed of holes being shut, I was not told the rest of the course was so badly altered.
Information on the status of courses need to be communicated on the app, via the course officials, prior to people booking.
Barnard Castle GC
Wet conditions when we visited but all the same the course played well, is very picturesque and a challenge to any golfer with its many tributaries running across or alongside fareways.
Will definitely be returning for a second round.
A Northern Gem
What a beautiful course. The course played a little long as they had just had heavy rain but still the course was in beautiful condition. The greens were amongst the best we have played on .... very true. It has a number of challenges to test your game but not too much for an average golfer. The staff and members made us feel very welcome. There is a lovely modern lounge serving food with views out onto the course. We will return.
Barnard Castle
Well worth a visit. Lovely sausage sandwich and coffee served by friendly welcoming staff. The we played a well prepared course. Perfect day.
Great course and fantastic staff.
We arrived at the course to discover our tee time had been double booked with a visiting ladies group who had all of the tee times booked for the late morning/early afternoon..The staff were brilliant (if a little bit confused as to how this happened) and assured us they’d work something out to ensure we would still be able to play. Fortunately we’d arrived over half an hour early. We were eventually teeing off about 15 minutes earlier than originally planned. The course was in excellent condition and we had a really enjoyable round of golf. As has been the case in the past, both staff and members were very friendly. Definitely one of my most favourite courses in the area. If it was a bit nearer to home I’d be enquiring about membership. The only disappointment was that by having to tee off a little earlier I missed out on the excellent sausage sandwich in the clubhouse!
One of my favourite golf courses
Made my third visit to Barnard Castle Golf Course today. The course had been very well tended overall especially the tees and greens which were in excellent condition. There are some challenging holes and some very much less so, but it is a joy to play. The staff in the shop and bar are so friendly and accommodating. In fact today’s round should have been a week ago but the weather intervened and the club were more than happy to rearrange the GolfNow booking. A delicious sausage sandwich and pot of tea in the bar started the day off well. I’ve played here three times now and never had a problem with any of the members I’ve encountered, they seem a generally friendly bunch. If it was a little bit closer to home I’d join!
