More attention to detail
Currently there is no retained professional so the club shop was sparse with just a counter with a till and a few sweets and drinks. The course was in average condition the rough had been cut but the cuttings hadn’t been collected so looked quite untidy in places. The greens had been hollow tined a few weeks ago and so weren’t at their best and were quite slow which was understandable however there was still alot of sand around the outer edges of the greens which was a problem when trying to play a pitch and run onto the Greens. The members must be praised for repairing their pitch marks as I never saw one on any of the 18 greens. The course was very quiet and as a 2 ball we were never held up and completed our round in under 3 hours. Excellent clubhouse with friendly bar staff after our round.
Barney Castle Sundays
Never let’s you down this course as always brilliant with excellent layout, members and staff always friendly. Wish I lived closer as would be a member 100%.
Couple of negatives was the pro shop closed and greens not in there usual excellent Condition.
Terrible greens. No pro shop open
Played here many times and this was by far the worst. Greens in terrible condition. Very heavily sanded - almost unplayable. Pro shop closed. No staff on hand. Not sure what’s going on - this course used to be a favourite of mine.
Course was a good set up good condition
Apart from they had sanded the greens just before played an was really thick might as well of been putting in bunkers
Pristine Condition
Fantastic round of golf here on Friday. The course is in superb condition. The greens were immaculate. Lovely to see so much wildlife around the course.
Would definitely recommend.
Great course layout.
Had a great day at Barny, lovely sunny afternoon with a touch of wind to make you think, great layout, the stream meanders through the course and comes into play so many times.
A lovely Bonnie course with staff so friendly, made us feel realy welcome. We'll be back real soon. Thanks guys.
Lovely Day's Golf
We booked through GolfNow and was surprised no staff available at 11 on a Sunday . Course was in really good condition and enjoyed the game.
Great at out
Worth the drive from Newcastle, really good course and lucky with the weather too!
Lovely course
Great course in lovely condition, most par 3’s were off the temp mats & still a few temp tee boxes in play, but needs must to keep the summer play in good condition. Overall a lovely course with a gorgeous beck flowing through most of the holes to keep you on your toes lol.
Definitely can’t wait to go back, well done to the team.
First Day to open after floods!
The Pro was so kind and went that extra mile to ring and advise us that due to the recent floods, only 12 holes were open. (Even though we booked through Golf Now which was a 3rd party., so he didn’t need to.
Such a lovely man, and I’d just like to say if everyone was so conscious about their job, the world would be a much better place.
Thank you Martyn,, you are really flying the flag for Barnard Castle Golf.
By the way, the course was in great condition, so were the greens, what flood?
We’ll be back, without question.
Cheers, Martyn
Barney Castle
Late January.. Played at 1pm.course empty.. For time if year fantastic condition.. 18 full greens. Bunkers all raked and immaculate.. Always play here when I'm this way in winter. Top course
Superb
Windy day so no great scores but a really interesting course - the stream straight through the 17th must give regular players nightmares. Greens were excellent for January, soft and receptive but very true. One of those courses you play for the first time and then really want to play again immediately as you’ve learned where not to hit a few tee shots and you know you’ve left shots out there. Highly recommend for the price.
Hidden Gem
Great round yesterday.
First and foremost we were welcomed in the proshop and the guys were very warm and friendly.
The course itself played well given the conditions were not great. Its not a long course but can be challenging if you find yourself out of position.
We really enjoyed our round
