Great day on a great course

Lovely course at a reasonable price, very friendly and helpful staff at the pro shop and the bar, the golf course it’s self is in very good condition overall but don’t stray into the second cut as it’s hard to find your ball and if you are lucky enough to find it it’s a wedge to get it out, but didn’t spoil the day in any way

Really poor layout, but friendly staff

The layout of this golf course is truly poor. On several occasions the tees required us to hit directly over other tees and greens, and the routes from green to tee had us walking back on ourselves and into oncoming players from all over the course.

Especially bad was the par 4 12th - the tees are directly behind the previous par 3 green, and the tee requires you to hit directly back towards the 11th tees, with a public foot path running right behind the tees and all the way along the right of the hole.

Another issue is the yardage markers - they are simply not at the right yardages. On at least 3 holes, the 100 yard markers were placed well over 110 yards from the middle of the greens - as tested against various rangefinders.

The course was kept in fine condition, however the layout really made for a less enjoyable round.

Can’t honestly say we’ll be back, but the woman running the bar was very friendly and we at least enjoyed the drinks.

Walked Off

Though the course is in decent condition this time of year the pace of play is the slowest you will ever experience playing golf, it took us 2 hours and 25 minutes to play 10 holes, with 3 playing groups backed up on the 11th tee off box before we decided to walk off. Do play here if you’ve got the time.

Rude

Greeted by one of the rudest members ever just as I was about to tee off. Accusing me of not paying, then saying why I am playing by myself.

Not welcoming for external people who are bringing much needed money to the club.

Do NOT Play This Course On A Saturday!

I'm not a member of Ryton, but have played it maybe 20 times in the last 4 years, always on weekdays. I know pace of play slows down on weekends due to the sheer volume of golfers on the course, but this was a really poor experience. A round of golf around a 5800 yard course took 5 HOURS! Really unenjoyable, and no one seemed in any rush whatsoever, despite being in 4-balls and clearly having people waiting on every tee box for them. Really hard to enjoy and a real shame.

The course has a good variety of holes

The greens were fast running and true. The fairway were also in good condition. Excellent value for money. We will definitely return.

Great shape, quite congested

The individual holes are beautiful and the course is in great shape, however there’s several holes where you tee off over a green and a couple spots where 3 holes seem to be hitting into/over/through each other. Just a little crowded in spots. Other than that, lovely track and friendly staff.
