Hobson Golf Club

Originally due to play week before but course was closed due to bad weather… phoned pro shop and they re-booked no problem for the following week. When we arrived, there were still some winter rules in play where some fairways were mat play or take off to the side… understandably after the recent rainfall! and greens had been hollowtined and sanded so they were slow, the course was in good condition overall and would certainly like to return in the summer months. An enjoyable day a nice course with some good amenities like a driving range and the pro shop was well stocked and friendly. Will be back.

With the course only opening that week we didn't know what to expect. Surprised to find it was only preferred lies on a number of fairways due to wet and repaired ground. The greens were in great conditiion and well kept, cut and steady as usual. There were a few winter tees in action but not many (par 3s and a par 4). Wasn't able to use MyEG as markers weren't set, unsure why so couldn't record an official handicap, best check with teh staff. Facilities were great. The range, putting greens and practice areas all in great shape. An excellent start to the year.

When we consider the sheer amount of rainfall we've had in recent days and weeks, the course was in excellent condition all things considered!

Tee boxes were more than usable, fairways were good, well drained, and greens were all in play and fully usable.

Especially considering the weather which has been foul, the course held up extremely well.

I’ve drove past this course many times over the years but never had the time to play it.

Wow I’ve missed out over the years as it is probably the best value for money course I have played.

The layout, the friendliness of the club shop staff and course conditions were all top drawer.

I have played Hobson on more than one occasion and like to book tee times when it’s not too busy, I am relatively new to the sport and enjoy the quiet in case a tee shot slices and just a really bad miss which you can imagine are quite a few, Hobson is an open course with plenty of miss spots so you don’t have to hit everything straight, great staff and the few people on the course where great when I played through a 4 ball, great round and would highly recommend

Very enjoyable round of golf. Quite dry so ball was running well. Greens were in excellent condition and consistent. Tee shots are fairly open so some room for error.

Beautiful views and overall an excellent round of golf.

Clubhouse very friendly and good choice of good value food and drink.

I have been meaning to give this course a go for a while. Some of the previous reviews put me off a bit, but I have to say that the whole round was wonderful. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, members very welcoming and course was in splendid condition. Played on a sunny wind free evening which helped. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Won’t leave it too long until I’m back. Happily recommend.

Played this morning..what a lovely course..lush green fairways..the greens are immaculate..other people at the course were friendly..the lad in the clubhouse made us a lovely bacon sandwich before we left..really enjoyed our day there..will definitely go back.

Course is currently in very good order and is better maintained than some of the more expensive (overpriced?) courses in the area - the quality of the greens in particular puts several others (Longhirst, Slaley, Matfen, Ramside, Whickham etc.) to shame. The only issue that our group had was a general concern that the recent relocation of some bunkers appears to have made the course more difficult for the average amateur player and easier for the longer hitting pro player - my guess is that this was not the intention and is something that the club needs to review again.

Course in fantastic condition. Only disappointment was that I’ve improved my approach shots in terms of hitting the greens but couldn’t keep it there. Fast hard greens often elevated and concave….too much for s duffer like me but great fun anyway

Quite flat and an easy round. Staff are friendly and there is a great driving range. I use this course a lot because it's close and it is a nice round that isn't too challenging.

On arrival the course has plenty parking spaces, when entering the club shop I was taken aback by the large amount of quality golf wear and accessories plus we were afforded a warm welcome. The club house is large and in a great position to see off the first drives of the day and welcome the last putts on the 18th and again there was a warm welcome. The food offerings were excellent, very tasty and very well priced. The course was very well kept and for a beginner is forgiving at times, although I did hit a couple of trees. The green fees were also very competitive which I will definitely be rebooking.

Played Hobson 30 years ago so was eager to go back again. I was not disappointed, the course has matured well and has some interesting and challenging holes. The greens were very good and rolled really well if a little fast.
