Great course let down by slow play
Such a great course In immaculate condition let down by slow play, 5hr 15min in a two ball
Great course but a challenge
Course in great condition considering recent weather of the past few years and very well laid out and looked after. No complaints however worth bearing in mind it is set on a hillside and is a challenging walk to get around especially if you have any mobility issues.
Would certainly play again and even look at joining fantastic course at a good price and played a good pace considering midweek medal was in progress.
Great course but fairways were poor
Everything about Whickham was spot on, the only issue was the fairways had recently been cut and the vast majority of it was covered in grass clumps. This made the game play as though every shot was out the rough.
As I say, it wasn't everywhere but it was quite poor.
Blind Tee Shots Galore
Course is good condition. Beautiful clubhouse. Pace of play was good. Lots of temporary greens but understandable with time of year. Could possibly have the green fees cheaper due to the temporary greens.
Good morning spent
Really good morning. Course is good condition considering the weather recently. Was disappointed when 2 holes closed with no information about it and still same price. All in all tho really good course
Beautiful course
Played here today and thought the course was superb. Every hole is interesting and requires thought and planning without ever being too difficult for mid to higher handicappers, and the condition was excellent despite the recent weather. No winter greens (although they were marking some out so don't know if that will change soon), not boggy and greens in great condition.
Views are fantastic and lots of trees make you feel in the middle of nowhere, the perfect place to lose a few hours hitting a ball about.
There are some small hills but nothing too taxing and they add interest so definitely a plus point rather than a negative.
There are a fair few blind shots and if you aren't accurate finding your ball can be a bit of an issue, but although I lost a few I still felt these blind shots were an enjoyable challenge.
My only criticism, which is a small one, is that the pro shop wasn't open and no one around to have a chat about the course and practice facilities, although I eventually tracked someone down in the bar. Didn't give the best first impression but that was quickly erased once in the course.
Oh and also there's a driving range but I was told I had to hit my own balls which made it unusable. I don't know if usually you get them from the pro shop maybe?
Anyway regardless of a couple of issues upon arrival I thoroughly enjoyed the course and will definitely be back for future rounds.
My new favorite course...
Im a member at Brancepeth Castle Club but love playing elsewhere that can match the same beauty, cost & challenges. Whickham is up there with the best. Great value for money, stunning scenery, course was in great condition and the clubhouse is nearly brand new. We couldnt understand why the course was so quiet. Already planning on a return trip
Whickham
A lovely course in a beautiful setting with excellent views.
Top course
Great course to play. Always in nice condition, and tough for more mid to high handicaps like myself. Staff always friendly and pull a nice pint
Great time at Whickham Golf Club
Amazing round - course in great condition throughout - challenging holes and really well laid out. Def play here again - hired a buggy as a little hilly but would have been fine either way! Thanks to the staff at Whickham Golf Club - made to feel welcome!
Practice round
Came for a quick practice on my own as I’m playing a comp at the end of the month, overall can’t fault the course, challenging holes and not boring at all, shot 38 points so hope I play that well soon
Windy Whickham
You can’t fault the course and variety of holes. A challenge in itself regardless of the windy day we had. A nice change from my usual course.
bargain
16 quid for a round here is such good value for money...loved the course...great condition...great layout and a good challenge. Will be back
