Redwood (Willow )Golf Course
There were a lot of dry grass in the fairways and on the greens.. Could not get any turf as most of the fairways were hard as a rock... Not playing again there..
People great. Course awful
This is the worst kept golf course I have ever played in CA. The front 9 is especially awful. Fairways are bald or muddy. Tee boxes are weeds. The greens looked great because rest of course was so awful.
Great layout and that's it.
Water distribution a real problem. Mud, standing water or hard pan. Lovely location and layout going to pot.
Be more accommodating when there is no people
Arrived early hoping to finish early and allow my guest to catch his flight. Staff denied us and said signed in allowed only for 5 min before booked time. Manner was firm, authoritative and with any smile. There was not a soul in site and the golf course could spread the players more evenly when we start early when no one is around.
Course needs lots of help
It was a Sunday so you expect "weekend" golfers but there were a lot of knuckleheads. Also when you check in and ask for your cart but are told many are inoperable so you need to wait. Also golf shop also very underwhelming. Almost no golf items.
As for the course it was either bare earth or wet spots to avoid.
Then there were the kids driving around the parking lot trying to play tag.
Disappointing.
Tight Fairways
Couse tucked away in a canyon... tight fairways.. greens good.. fairways good.. tee boxes good.
Weather was perfect... pace of play was good
4hr 15 min round on a weekend!
After that bad winter of rain that damaged the course the grounds crew have done an excellent job of getting it back into shape the greens are really good now!! Thanks see you soon.Regards Oscar Chabre.
Unrealized potential, horrible management
First the positives. Course has a neat layout for a short course. Tucked in nature, away from housing developments and busy roadways.
Unfortunately, the course is completely mis-managed. Staff doesn't care, and it shows in the course conditions and how they treat the customers. Not sure who is the management, but the teenagers that work here are poor mannered at best.
Conditions? Debatable if you can call the fairway 'grass,' as there's tons of random clover patches, weeds, etc. Rough? Just tougher weeds. Greens covered in bumps and weed filled divots. Range? They do have a mosquito swamp to hit balls into.
Just too unfortunate that the course is so poorly run. Get proper staff and management, and maybe they can save this place.
Course has deteriorated
God a great hot-deal on GolfNow and was looking forward to the round, having not played on this course since winter just gone - where a lot of the course was pretty churned up.
Well, this course could do with some loving because its in a very poor state of play. Many of the fairways have large patches of dead brown grass and GUR. The greens are also patchy with many rough and bare edges. The cart paths are unsealed - some super dusty and some mudholes where they have overwatered. The creek which runs alongside many of the very narrow holes is overgrown and makes finding your ball from a slightly mis-shaped shot, very difficult. The ambassador was friendly but the older gentleman at the counter in the pro-shop was curt and unfriendly. The pro-shop is extremely limited in merchandise. I paid $8 from a hot deal and I'm sad to say that's about it's value. Wish I could give it a better review but until this place gets an overhaul or better management, I'll not be visiting very much
Alameda Golf Course
It's a good course for the money.
For a busy public course the ground keepers do a good job in keeping it very playable. The people in the pro shop are very helpful.
The Restaruant is one of the best for a public course.
I'll play there anytime.
Short course, but convenient, and a confidence builder.
Nice course, conveniently located in the east bay. Short on yardage, but usually in good condition, and fun to play.
Rushed
Staff needs to control groups cutting inbetween already playing groups. Played 18 in 3.5 hours and we're being told to pick up the pace.
challenging course
I go here once a week and this course is slowly improving from the huge flood in February. The Greens are in great shape. Course is nestled in a Canyon where you can see lots of deer and turkey. Target golf with creek running through entire course. Small enough course for everyone to play. Be carefull big hitters :)~
This Course Has Issues
I really want to like this course. The course layout is excellent, the holes are diverse enough to remain interesting, and it is challenging enough with the trees and the creek while remaining forgiving with it's length. I have played there four or five times in the last two years and each time I go back it is with the hope of seeing some improvement in management and course conditions. it hasn't happened. At check in I found out they were out of scorecards and had run out of copies(!!!) of scorecards. There was confusion on the first tee because there is no starter checking in players. As a single I just wandered over to the tee to find a foursome with a later start time teeing off ahead of me. A threesome arrived and it was up to me to have them tee off with me. They were going to allow a single to tee off alone on a busy weekend. Course conditions. As a weekend player on public courses I'm very accepting of less than ideal conditions. But when the conditions interfere with proper execution of my clubs, then I become critical. The hardpan around the greens made it very difficult to hit proper chips and pitches. The fairways were very inconsistent and the greens the same, with a few having areas of bare patches. It was an extra level of frustrating. This course needs a lot of maintenance to bring it up to other public courses I play in the area.
Friday afternoon at RWC
I've played this course for more than 30 years but this was the first time since this winter's damage. Tee boxes and greens were excellent and yeah there's still a lot of ground under repair but plenty of nice fairway grass also. Staff is super courteous and they're trying hard to rebuild the place so come on out and play. The course still has its amazing feel like your miles away from civilization and cell coverage is still really poor in the canyons(which is great in my book)
