Rancho Solano Golf Course sits midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, a location that makes it easily accessible from all the cities in the Bay Area. The course sprawls across hilly terrain, providing the layout with elevated tees and dramatically undulating greens. It is a tough course to walk but it's possible. Sparkling lakes dot the hills, coming into play on a few holes. There are also numerous strategically placed bunkers to contend with. The expansive greens offer some room for error but pin placement is still important. The first three holes on the back nine are some of Rancho Solano Golf Course's most challenging, especially the par-4 11th hole. Club selection is the key to this hole or you might lose your ball to the lake and even once you do seemingly reach safety, there are still bunkers backing the large green.

Stay away

This is easily the best public course in Solano county. Country club-like conditions. Challenging greens are huge so prepare for some three putts. Holes 10-12 provide a bit of an “Amen Corner.” Poa annua greens are typically bumpy later in the day.

Lovely day at Rancho

Beautiful day, course, and playing partners! Our foursome teed off at 8 AM and finished at 12 PM. Course is in great shape. The greens are massive and contoured treacherously. Always a challenging course to play.

Staff doesn’t care

Staff has no concern about your round once they have your money. Had a group in front of us with a 5 year old riding in a cart. Well riding is not really accurate she was runing all around the course, including on the greens and in bunkers. I’m all for kids learning the game but hearing a girl yell Daddy, Daddy, over and over again in your backswing just sucks. Course staff didn’t care when we said something. I guess this is why I play there once, maybe twice a year. Oh the 5 hour round didn’t help either.
