Rancho Solano Golf Course
About
Rancho Solano Golf Course sits midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, a location that makes it easily accessible from all the cities in the Bay Area. The course sprawls across hilly terrain, providing the layout with elevated tees and dramatically undulating greens. It is a tough course to walk but it's possible. Sparkling lakes dot the hills, coming into play on a few holes. There are also numerous strategically placed bunkers to contend with. The expansive greens offer some room for error but pin placement is still important. The first three holes on the back nine are some of Rancho Solano Golf Course's most challenging, especially the par-4 11th hole. Club selection is the key to this hole or you might lose your ball to the lake and even once you do seemingly reach safety, there are still bunkers backing the large green.

Best Deal in the Bay
Definitely one of the top public courses in Northern California. Big fairways and huge greens for those of us lacking pinpoint accuracy. The greens were in great shape. The only reason that I didn't give the course conditions 5 stars was because the fairways had been a little soggy in some spots.
At or nearly CC quality track.
We had a late afternoon, (3:56) tee time which meant the course was wide open with light pressure. We started about 10 minutes early and our our threesome finished in a little under four hours. We took our time but we're not pro's and played smart ready golf. The parking lot is a hike from the pro shop. So, plan to leave your clubs in the car and get a cart to go back and retrieve them. I don't know if they have a driving range and I didn't see a practice sand trap either. The golf carts are a solid windshield which meant occasional glare when trying to find your golf ball. They didn't have a sand seed bottle but they did have a large screen GPS and a small bucket to hold ice and drinks. They didn't charge you for a small bag of ice either! The wind was average at about 15 miles an hour so hit him straight or fix your slice. The fairways are absolutely Primo like a carpet everywhere. The sand traps were little thin but the greens were quite large and true so if you missed a sand shot you still had a chance to make a good putt. Trees lined the fairways which adds to the beauty of this track. There's a few elevated tee boxes, maybe 30 or 40 feet or so. I saw at least two restrooms throughout the course not including the clubhouse. It's a bit of a drive for me but I hope I can find another late afternoon hot deal soon so I won't have to fight traffic coming home.
Hot but fast
Got out on a hot (95 degrees) Friday afternoon and other than a little miscommunication with the starter about sharing a cart, the day was great. My partner and I had nobody in front of us for 14 holes and played in less than 3.5 hours. We had a great time navigating the challenging yet fair layout. Great value for a fun course in great shape.
Great summer conditions
One of few courses that the sand played as actual sand out of the bunkers. Green fairways and rough. Ball rolled true on the greens. Only complaint is larger than normal greens. If you are a great short game player then this is the course for you!
Awesome golf course
I haven't played here in 30 years. Boy have I been missing out on a great golf course! The fairways are perfect, the greens are awesome, the staff was fantastic. This course is very hilly and has plenty of hazards to avoid, but not too many that will give you too much trouble.
Everything is well groomed and as green as green can get.
I think this is my new favorite course. To the people at RSGC, get ready to see me a lot!! I will drive the 45 minutes to play here a few times a week.
super place for an interesting round of golf
I have always loved Rancho Solano golf course and they do a good job of keeping it in great condition, the only suggestion I have is to put turf repair or sand on cart instead of a waste basket so people can spot there divots to keep this place pristine.I notice hardly anyone replaces a divot and since there's no sand or seed they just don't get repaired at all unless the grounds keepers do it at night.I would happily spot others people's divots when waiting if it was available other then that I had a blast and love this course.
Rancho Solano one of the best courses in the area.
Great conditions on the course. Will definitely come back again!
Best
This is one of the best value courses in the Bay Area.
Recently golfed here with beginners and the marshal harassed us about rate of play. There were only 2 occasions when the group behind us was waiting but that was because they were much better players than us. Once they were passed us and no one else was directly behind us the marshal still followed right behind us after every shot we took. He even threatened to kick us off the course if we didn't speed up even though the next group was 2 holes behind us and never caught up to us. The course is great and well kept. Other than the harassment it was a great experience.
Marshall's have to make judgement on pace of play. It's what most people want and expect.
Putter's playground
Expect large greens in excellent condition. Keep your approach shots below the cup and you'll have a good chance.
Must Play Public Course
This course is a great course to play. The staff is friendly, the greens are large but roll great. The normal daily fees are high, but Golfnow prices are a must. The food is great too.
Amazing Round - Great Condition
Rancho Solano is a staple in my annual golf calendar. I have never seen the course in better condition. From the tee boxes to the greens, the course Management is on point. The Marshall was visible throughout the round and this helped to keep the pace perfectly.
Looking forward to my next round at RSGC.
Solano County Golf
For a public course, Rancho is in great shape. We were a twosome, and some of the fours were kind enough to allow us to play through. We were able to finish our round of 18 in less than four hours. Wow!
I had the same thought that you did about having a turf repair bottle on the golf cart.
