Rancho Solano Golf Course sits midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, a location that makes it easily accessible from all the cities in the Bay Area. The course sprawls across hilly terrain, providing the layout with elevated tees and dramatically undulating greens. It is a tough course to walk but it's possible. Sparkling lakes dot the hills, coming into play on a few holes. There are also numerous strategically placed bunkers to contend with. The expansive greens offer some room for error but pin placement is still important. The first three holes on the back nine are some of Rancho Solano Golf Course's most challenging, especially the par-4 11th hole. Club selection is the key to this hole or you might lose your ball to the lake and even once you do seemingly reach safety, there are still bunkers backing the large green.

First time playing Rancho Solano. For early January the course was it decent shape, so I imagine it is very nice in Spring/Summer. No straight or flat or horizontal holes. No flat or slow greens. However, the course does not play difficult - just a fair challenge, though I would imagine that there are some pin placements that would be somewhat diabolical. Fairways are mostly forgiving, but there is some water, and a couple of forced carries on the back.

Pace this day was a little slow, but I'll play there some more to judge that aspect further.

Overall no real complaints, so get out there.

Great course, good challenge

Love this course. Layout, nice greens, most fairways smooth cut. Greens were a bit soft & not running too fast. Undulation is awesome. Expected a bit firmer & faster. Nice pro shop staff & selections. Range is a bit short in length and uphill. A bit odd in my opinion. Being a holiday, I would expect parings to be full. We had a 2-some behind us (Hhhmmm!). Will return, compare conditions another time of year.

Beautiful place

Great staff. Be careful of golf carts. I replaced cart halfway through. The brakes on both carts were not very good. Other wise. Course well maintained. Everything on the course was well taken care of. Clean cut and very little heavy rough.

Unbelievably SLOW

It took 3 hours to play the first nine holes. Then it took 25 minutes to get to the 10th tee, tee off, and complete the hole. We waited for 20 minutes to tee off on the 11th hole and finally gave up as we had to be somewhere at 5 PM. We assumed wrongly that teeing off at 11:08 (actually teed off early) would give us plenty of time, but alas no.

To be fair, this was the first time we encountered this problem and we have played here several times. The course needs to have monitors on the course to assist those slow players with speeding up or letting other play through. All in all this was a terrible experience.
