Hurting greens!
Course was excellent in most ways. But due to colder than normal winter, they have lost more than half there greens , with big bare spots and generally bumpy.
Disappointing round
Booked this round for one golfer on Golf Now. It was listed for one or two golfers. I picked this time so I would have a twosome to play with. When I gave my ticket to the starter he told he said there was no one for me to play with. I had to play behind one group that had 14 golfers and another group that had 8 golfers. I started my round 20 minutes late and had to wait on every shot.
The greens were very rough and bumping. The ball would not roll.
Need to get their green back
We played this course during the week and had a beautiful day. I have played this course many times and always enjoyed it. Today however there were many bare spots on the fairways and the greens were a complete mess. We had to wait on every hole as there was an extremely slow twosome two groups in front of us. There was no ranger out there to help with the pace of play. I realize this is a great price for golf ---but had I known the condition of the course I would not have booked it.
Worst course I've ever played!!!!!!!
My group has been playing for over 15 yrs in Myrtle Beach area and this by far the worse experience we've ever had. The greens are sand that have been painted green to look like a green. There's a little bit of grass which is even worse cause you try to putt through this crap and ball just jumps everywhere trying to make a putt longer than 4 feet is impossible. I really feel like they should've paid me to play there verses my paying them. The starter even stated that be glad your not playing the Bay side cause the greens are very bad. My question is how could they be worse???? We'll never play this course ever again I'm so glad I'm not a member for this place if I had to play this place everyday I'd quit the game of golf!
Needs alot of work!!
Well I felt that I needed to share my experience with this course, for a country club (Ihave played public courses that were 100 times better). The greens were the worst I had ever experienced for any kind of course (public/Private)!!
The path conditions were also pitiful as well (pot holes that made the ones in NYC nothing in comparison).
Best thing, was the 19th hole (the bar) where the Barmaid bought my buddy and I a beer after explaining we left after 14 holes of misery.
Sorry but this place NEEDS ALOT OF WORK!
MJL
Sandpiper Bay is a public course with member play. Speaking of work, new greens going in mid June.
Maybe read some reviews before you play?
Like most- Problems with the greens
The problem is with the greens. Played there two weeks ago and I can see some improvement in the greens today.
New greens will be installed mid June, expect a late July comeback of all 27 holes.
Played only 9 because of rain.
The course was wide open because of rain. Had played 2 days before. I was amazed at how much the grass on the greens had come in. In a few weeks the course should be in the great shape it normally is.
One of the best places to play.
Good Course, Friendly Staff, Greens?????
Have played all 27 holes regularly during our visits to Sunset Beach and have been quite pleased until this year. There were at least 14 greens that were in poor condition because of the winter kill. However, other courses within the same area have greens that are in great shape and without winter damage. In my opinion the greens keeper made some sort of mistake this winter. The fairways, bunkers, and other aspects of the course are in good shape.
Great Course- Greens were in repair
I always play here when I am in N. Myrtle Beach. The course is usually in great shape. A winter ice storm killed the greens so the greens were in repair. So the greens were rather bumpy and extremely hard to play on.
However, in the many years playing this course this was an extreme exception to the excellent conditions that I usually find the course in. I love the fact that range balls are included in the price.Great facilities and staff. Thanks for a great day. Shot 79 and easily could have been a par round. Looking forward to May when the greens are in.
Early season conditions
Nice spot, paired up with some nice folks. Pace was good. Greens in cry poor shape but this early in the season that is likely to be expected.
Grass on greens
The grass on most of the greens has started to fill in, however, this leaves the green very bumpy! An excuse to three putt!
Very dissapointed
The new greens at Sandpiper were fantastic, last year. No more.
Bay nine was closed and the other two nines should close as well. The overall condition of the course is shabby. Tees, fairways and greens are in poor condition. Greens are uneven, spotty and uncut where there is real grass, not green painted sand.
Did not enjoy round as NO green was putt-able. Played as two putt max as you never knew where the bumps where. A great course in trouble.
Good Deal
Good course and Fun Day. Good value for your dollar.
The course will be installing new greens this summer. Expect a late July reopening of all 27 holes.
