The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Great value
Course is always in good condition. Bunkers still washed out from hurricane, but other than that all is well. Greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Got to see a 14ft gator which made the round more interesting. Highly recommend this course especially if there is a hot deal.
Parr is Island
The course was in good shape. The pace of play was so slow 3 hours for 9 holes, not good. Additionally, there was tournament and they put GN slot in the middle. The bunker were not raked out and looked like rain had flooded them.
Wildlife Paradise
What a great course, greens fairways in great shape. Very nice and challenging course, favorite hole to think on #4, to go or not to go for it!!
good time
This course is always in great condition. Pace of play was a little slow, but the course was very busy. Would go back again and would certainly recommend this course.
Nice layout. Friendly staff. Course condition very good.
This is a great course to play for all levels of golfers. In addition, the views are so pretty. The course is in such great condition, especially for this time of year. Will return, for sure.
Great, friendly staff and reasonable rates. Beautifully maintained course.
Parris gem
Really good course, greens best I have seen them. Nice layout worth a look for all levels.
Nice course to play
We liked the course but the snack bar and the grill were closed.
Old, tired & in need of overhaul
Not much to say here except the greens were very good but the rest of the course...bland & in need of better conditioning.
Great value, excellent condition, well worth the drive
This course was in very good condition and a excellent value. Whereas the 2 courses on Hilton Head were not.The cost was less than 50% of what we paid for two "up scale?" courses ( Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall and Eagles Point) on Hilton Head Island.
Great day of golf.
Great value, locals waved us through twice, greens were lightning fast, staff was friendly. Food service was slow but good.
Great Course
Greens are very good and fair. Wildlife plentiful. Nothing Gimmicky.
we are marines
first time I played here. conditions were perfect. US government at our best. each hole is different, no houses or parallel fairways. it is well worth the drive from Hilton head, don't miss this gem
Busy but fun course
A fun course to play, greens were fast but true. A very busy course on the week-end had to wait on almost every shot but still fun to play. For the price I can't complain. Got a Hot Deal along with using a reward. The weather was great and we hooked up with some locals who gave us some tips. Would like to play it again when maybe not so busy. Staff was great!
Marine Base
To access the Parris Island Marine base you have to check in at the main gate and show your drivers license ( also the other people in your car). It was very fast to make it through the process.
The course is wide open (due to the high winds reminded me of the conditions at St Andrews) and course was well maintained. I had problems reading the greens but were in terrific shape and ball rolled perfectly. Due to location you experience some high winds the day I played. I really enjoyed this course and it winds that make club selection challenging! My overall experience of the course was extremely high. The cost of the course was excellent, I paid only $29 for 18 holes with a cart and enjoyed my entire round.
Enjoyable round
Nice layout with beautiful views. Greens were true and quite fast. Staff very friendly.
Great day of Golf
The great golf weather and the course in very good condition made for a great day of golf. The fairway are generally nice and wide but watch out for the water. As a novice golfer I was glad that I made it over the hit over fairway hazards (water and marsh) that are on a few of the holes and kept the ball on the green on the few greens that were surrounded (180 to 270 degrees) by water. The green were good and pretty fast - now if I could only putt. It was also great to see our Marines - Thank You for keeping us safe .
