About

Holes 18
Type Military
Par 72
Length 6898 yards
Slope 131
Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Old, tired & in need of overhaul

Not much to say here except the greens were very good but the rest of the course...bland & in need of better conditioning.

Great value, excellent condition, well worth the drive

This course was in very good condition and a excellent value. Whereas the 2 courses on Hilton Head were not.The cost was less than 50% of what we paid for two "up scale?" courses ( Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall and Eagles Point) on Hilton Head Island.

Busy but fun course

A fun course to play, greens were fast but true. A very busy course on the week-end had to wait on almost every shot but still fun to play. For the price I can't complain. Got a Hot Deal along with using a reward. The weather was great and we hooked up with some locals who gave us some tips. Would like to play it again when maybe not so busy. Staff was great!

Marine Base

To access the Parris Island Marine base you have to check in at the main gate and show your drivers license ( also the other people in your car). It was very fast to make it through the process.

The course is wide open (due to the high winds reminded me of the conditions at St Andrews) and course was well maintained. I had problems reading the greens but were in terrific shape and ball rolled perfectly. Due to location you experience some high winds the day I played. I really enjoyed this course and it winds that make club selection challenging! My overall experience of the course was extremely high. The cost of the course was excellent, I paid only $29 for 18 holes with a cart and enjoyed my entire round.

Great day of Golf

The great golf weather and the course in very good condition made for a great day of golf. The fairway are generally nice and wide but watch out for the water. As a novice golfer I was glad that I made it over the hit over fairway hazards (water and marsh) that are on a few of the holes and kept the ball on the green on the few greens that were surrounded (180 to 270 degrees) by water. The green were good and pretty fast - now if I could only putt. It was also great to see our Marines - Thank You for keeping us safe .

Great experience

Well worth the trip from Hilton Head. The course is in excellent shape with a wide variety of layouts for holes. Maybe we played on a good day, but it was not crowded, and play moved right along. The staff could not have been nicer, came across as really happy to have us come play there. What a good day!

Rickos

Great course for the money and have played it several times but the length of play was 4:20 and that is ridiculous...they have no marshals and it shows...this is the only drawback...it is just too long of a round...

We appreciate the kind review and constructive feedback! Because this is a military golf course, we are usually very busy on federal holidays, such as Presidents Day, but we don't have any course marshals in the winter months. However, we don't want any drawbacks and, from now on, we will schedule a marshal for all holidays!

Great American Course

Couldn't ask for a better course in this condition at this time of year. The course was suprsingly green and the greens were in pristine condition with minimal traffic wear. Was interesting to putt while recruits yelled in the tree line. Would highly recommend playing here. Only drawback is lack of clubhouse amenities.

low country winter golf

first my thanks to the club pro. i had made an error with my tee time, he came out said no problem and got us off and playing. this is a fun course the layout especially on the back nine requires one to think not just hit away. the greens were fast and true. do not be above the pin!! looking forward to playing again.

As an American patriot l was honored to play a course where many great warriors have walked! It's a good design with reasonable variety. Greens were very good and fast (11-12 ). Paris Island is a legend to me, so the course is aptly named.

Course with no homes and at one with Low Country nature

My favorite course among 40 in the area.

Great layout with challenging well maintained greens.

Of historical interest:recently discovered archaeological site of late 1500s St. Elena Spanish community established many years before Jamestown and Plymouth Rock----right next to the course.
