Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Best Greens In The Region

Course design is a bit mudane, but out in the marsh with no homes just natural surroundings. The pro shop has the feel of a comfortable munie. Look at price options carfully. Walk ons without military experience pay more.

Worth the Drive

Staying on HHI we trolled GN for deals and found it at Legends. Above average layout with some neat holes. We played the Golden Bear GC the day before...a higher rated course, and the Legends greens were 10 x better. The rest tee to green was in great shape. No homes on the course and this part of the island has some interesting history which you can read about on a self-guided tour after your round. We also drove around the base and saw some of our soon to be finest going through the basics! Don't expect a nice grill room atmosphere with 10 draft selections. A can of Bud and a burger on a styro plate...old school but tasted good. The staff was great!! And so was the golf.

Great day of golf

This was a great day of golf and a great value. It may not be Harbourtown, but just getting to see Parris Island is a great thing and the course and greens are in good shape. The greens were fast and green and the course was challenging. If you hit it straight you will be safe, but water is in many places if you slice.

People were extremely friendly and I would recommend to others.

Parris Island Legends Golf Course - Sweet!

Extremely well managed and cared for golf course. High quality course that was a true pleasure to play. We could hear the recruits going through their training elsewhere on the Island and the wildlife was abundant, The greens played fast but were very well rolled and consistent. The roughs were, well rough. All in all a fantastic course with many challenging shots. Loved it, and the staff was very friendly too.

Terrific place - do not miss!

If you are looking for a golf course designed to fit into its own environment perfectly- unspoiled by houses and condos and lots of machined challenges, then this is your kind of place.

Conditions are surprisingly good and actually better than most courses you will be able to play in the Low Country.

If you are a military veteran, your rates are reduced (deservedly).

Do not miss a chance to play here- schedule the tee time ahead and avoid Weekend crowds if possible.

Greens recovering from aeration, but Golf Now Made it worth while

Don't know why they put all those lakes where my ball slices towards:-}

I'm a hacker. Sunday afternoon. Nobody in front or back of us.

Greens were aerated the Monday before, but were coming back fine and were a little shabby, but I knew that when I booked through Golf Now. It was a great deal on a pretty day.

Great time

The course was in great shape and the pace of play was better than average. It was our first time on the course and the layout was easy to navigate. The only reason I rate the amenities good was the fact the food service closed at 2 PM. We will definitely be back.

Great Layout and Surprisingly Fun

I read the earlier reviews and decided to take the hour drive into Parris Island, SC. IT WAS WIORTH IT! Because I'm retired military the price was great. I'm currently working in the area and usually play Hilton Head golf courses on the weekend. I enjoyed the scenic drive into Parris, Island and enjoyed the course even more. I was greeted by friendly staff,a well stocked and reasonably price Pro shop. The course was wide open at the time and I played 18 holes in 2 hours 15 minutes and I stopped to take pictures on several holes. The fairways were in good shape and the rough was a little high, probably due to all the rain over the past few days. The greens were in great shape and appeared to roll true throughout the round.. The course has challenges throughout with water being the biggest for most holes. Be careful around the water areas, because I saw alligators all day! Though some of the holes appear short in length, the undulations and water hazard keep you honest. If you are in the HHI area give this course a try. I tee'd off around 3:45 on a Saturday and practically had the course to myself. I have played more than 18 different HHI courses and this one ranks in my top 5.

Nice Play

Front easier than back. Dispute some of the handicap ratings on some holes. Greens very clean & true but brownish green. Bunkers hard compacted sand. Watch out for large alligators. Very enjoyable to play but a little far out on the island. Would play again.

Poor management

Our tee time was booked right before a group of 28 went off. When we stopped at the turn we tried to go back out but were in the middle of the group. They came out and said something to us for being in the middle of the group but had no other options for us. We only played nine and they did not refund us our money. Very poor booking management . Also our order from the grill was messed up really bad. The course however, was in good condition .

If you came back out and found yourself in the middle of a 28-person group, it means you stopped WAY too long at the turn. It's annoying when people do this and expect just to jump back in at 10 like it's no big deal.

Well worth the drive

Had read many good reviews about this course and decided to take the drive and play it. Golf Now web site is a little misleading about distance to course as it is around 45 miles from where we were staying on Hilton Head. IT IS WORTH THE DRIVE! Especially with the great rate on Golf Now. Greens had been recently sanded, but it did not affect them at all. Still very fast and rolled true. Getting to course on Marine base was a little extra time, but worth it. Make sure you have identification and you should not have any trouble getting on base (unless you are NOT a natural born citizen of U>S>0. Then you have additional paperwork to fill out. But again, it is well worth it. Got to play with 3 retired Marines and truly enjoyed the company. Oh, And watch out for gators. Say one in every pond on the course. A truly enjoyable round of golf. I will be back on a future vacation to HHI.

You made a great observation about access to the golf course. As long as you have your drivers license, registration, and insurance card, it is fast and easy to get on base. Thank you for making the drive to Parris Island and we look forward to seeing you when you return!
