The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Good place to play
This was my second round at Parris Island and I can't wait to play it in the summer. Dormant conditions but a great round just the same. They are working on the traps and I personally think there's too much sand in the fairway bunkers. But with most courses in the area having little sand or poorly maintained bunkers, I can't complain much.
A lot of wildlife, Marines on a run nearby and friendly staff, this is worth the hour drive from Savannah.
Great For Price
Paid $14 for 18 holes! It was better than courses three times its price!
Worth the trip.
A very nice, open, yet challenging course. If the wind was up the challenge would have quadrupled. Two notes... we're not US residents so entry to the base required getting the "Friends of Parris Island" pass. Takes a few days. Glad we did. Everyone we dealt with was super nice.
Other noteworthy observation... we happened to be golfing while an enactment or military exercise was occurring. Couldn't see it, but could hear the extraordinary drama of chaos and carnage. It was a bit unsettling and caused a genuine reality check. Most unique golf round I've had in years.
Oops
We were denied access to the base because of our citizen status (Canadian). Within two days we were cleared, but it was too late for our tee time. We will try again since the reviews sound terrific, but if you are not holding a US drivers license or a "Friend of Parris Island" pass you will be not be golfing until you are approved. A nugget that would have helpful to have before we purchased the GolfNow tee time the evening prior.
Great Value Course
Course is one of the best in the Lowcountry. Tee boxes and greens were in great condition. Food menu was lacking, but this place has great practice facilities. Highly recommend.
Perfect day and great golf course
The course was in very good shape considering the grass is going dormant for the winter. Greens fast but true. There is plenty of water and sand traps on the course, but it not too difficult as there is plenty of room. The approach to greens is pretty open and level. A great course to walk. It was "family day" at Parris Island MCRD so the recruits were with their family getting ready for graduation the next day.
We just needed to show driver's license to get on the base, but be sure to have current vehicle registration and proof of insurance just in case.
We were a 2-some and followed a 4-some - played in 3.75 hours = good pace of play.
We saw 5 alligators - one about 12 feet long!
Loved it and would play again.
Marines excel
Enjoyable scenic golf course. Very, very fast greens since the Bermuda has stopped growing. We'll be back many times even though its a 90 minute drive.
Excellent experience
My first time and I will return even though it was about an hour drive. Nice range and snack bar. Played through a couple of groups ( I was a twosome). Greens were very fast and layout weaved between ponds and marshes.
Easy entrance into the base and was inspiring watching the recruits as we drove through. Worth the drive to play!
You will not be disappointed
Like course, variety of holes, well maintained and war games going on in background!
we are marines
perfect conditions. greens a little fast fairways and tee boxes were great, abundant wildlife. 6 alligator sightings well worth the drive
Little extra time needed to get into Parrish Island.
With all new sand in bunkers it is by far the best in the low country.Great job men.
perfect day
Legends is a great value and enough of a challenge for a high handicapper. The marsh holes are a highlight. The staff are always friendly. Course conditions were pretty good for November. We always enjoy playing here and recommend it.
Nice course
Greens were fast and true. Course was in very good shape, interesting and fair. Lots of gators.
Great course and price.
Course was in great conditions. Greens are well maintained and layout was fun. Great value. Will play it again soon.
Tf
Nice enjoyable place for a round of golf. Not spectacular but well laid out with plenty of challenges from water and dog legs. Basic golf course without the frills of resort golf, and the price that goes with it.
Legends at Parris Island wide open
Course is fairly wide open with almost no out of bounds and not many water hazards.
You will usually see herons, egrets, wood storks and alligators as the area is fairly wild and well removed from the US marine training areas.
A very flat layout so if you're after hills and elevation changes, not for you.
Course is in very good condition wit very few fairway divots and greens putt true.
