The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Rickos
Great course for the money and have played it several times but the length of play was 4:20 and that is ridiculous...they have no marshals and it shows...this is the only drawback...it is just too long of a round...
Great American Course
Couldn't ask for a better course in this condition at this time of year. The course was suprsingly green and the greens were in pristine condition with minimal traffic wear. Was interesting to putt while recruits yelled in the tree line. Would highly recommend playing here. Only drawback is lack of clubhouse amenities.
low country winter golf
first my thanks to the club pro. i had made an error with my tee time, he came out said no problem and got us off and playing. this is a fun course the layout especially on the back nine requires one to think not just hit away. the greens were fast and true. do not be above the pin!! looking forward to playing again.
ACER14
As an American patriot l was honored to play a course where many great warriors have walked! It's a good design with reasonable variety. Greens were very good and fast (11-12 ). Paris Island is a legend to me, so the course is aptly named.
Course with no homes and at one with Low Country nature
My favorite course among 40 in the area.
Great layout with challenging well maintained greens.
Of historical interest:recently discovered archaeological site of late 1500s St. Elena Spanish community established many years before Jamestown and Plymouth Rock----right next to the course.
Well worth a visit
Enjoyable experience ... based within the Parris Island US Marine base, this is a change from the norm.Pro shop with interesting mementos from the Marines and the entrance to the base as golfers was done very courteously and expeditiously.Layout was good, course well maintained and very much an opportunity to recommend.
The weather was georgeous. The staff are great. We teed off right on time. Played in three hours and forty five minutes.
It could'nt have been a more enjoyable experience.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at The Legends!
pturso
perfect day great round and played in 2 1/2 hrs
This course was enjoyable
My wife and I played here for the first time and really enjoyed the experience.
The greens were in excellent shape and the fairways in good shape also.
We plan to play here again.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Legends. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your round and that you plan to visit again!
Great place to play a round of golf
The people and course were perfect for my level of experience and would recommend this deal to anyone
Providing good staff to enhance your experience is something we take great pride in offering. Thank you for your comments about our course and people!
God bless America
Exceptional. Course and can hear the marines in training.
A big part of what of what we call "The Legends Experience" is seeing and hearing what the recruits endure to become United States Marines. God Bless America, indeed!
Good course
Enjoyed my round a lot. I'd say this is shot makers layout, not super long and no tricks. Interesting greens. Wonderful staff.
I agree...this IS a shot-makers course with challenging green complexes. Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience at The Legends!
Gorgeous course
We played two weeks after the Hurricane. Course was in great shape. Got a fantastic deal thru golf now. I am a seven handicap and shot 79 so I was in hog heaven. If you're anywhere near this course, be sure to play it.
Congratulations on a very nice score!
Fun course in a nice setting.
We played here after our round on HHI was cancelled due to recent hurricane. Very pretty course set right on Port Royal Sound. Each hole is named after a famous marine, giving it a historical feel. Be sure to bring a picture ID so that you can get on base.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Legends...so glad that you enjoyed it!
Worth the drive from Hilton Head
The Legends is a well-maintained course, very playable for a reasonable price. If you play, stop by the Santa Elena memorial and Spanish fort site down a short distance. from the clubhouse.
Thank you for your kind remarks. And you're right...the Santa Elena memorial and the fort are both great pieces of American history!
Well maintained, decent challenge,fast greens
Well maintained course, a decent challenge for average golfers, some water, great views of the surround salt marsh, fast greens. Worth the drive from Hilton Head.
Best Greens In The Region
Course design is a bit mudane, but out in the marsh with no homes just natural surroundings. The pro shop has the feel of a comfortable munie. Look at price options carfully. Walk ons without military experience pay more.
We appreciate the kind review and constructive feedback! Because this is a military golf course, we are usually very busy on federal holidays, such as Presidents Day, but we don't have any course marshals in the winter months. However, we don't want any drawbacks and, from now on, we will schedule a marshal for all holidays!
