The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Excellent fairways and very fast but smooth greens
Very enjoyable round. Fairways wide enough to permit using driver. Don’t be aggressive with your putts or else you will be three putting often.
Perfection!
This is probably the finest course I have ever played that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Super friendly staff, very clean course in superb condition. Very fast greens which I liked. Nothing even close to negative to say about this course. Just be on the lookout for big gators. The carts also had GPS which is a plus for reading each hole. Highly recommend. God Bless our Troops!
Not-so hidden Gem
I've paid $80-$125 for this level of golf. Fortunate to be a resident of Beaufort, $40.
Best course for the money
This course located on the Marine Corps Recruit Depot is literally a dream come true. The greens were rolling close to 12 and smooth as could be. the fairways are great. There is not other course around that is nearly as nice as this one for the money. Course can play back to 7000 yards. The pace of play was great. The restaurant closes early, but you can still get something to drink after your round. The offer lessons and support as well. You will not want to miss a chance to play here. Just tell the MP at the gate you have a tee time and show you DL,Insurance and registration and head to the course.
Great layout!
Had a great time today. Even though they had an outing, and could have said sorry, they were more than accommodating to honor our online tee time. The course is beautiful and in excellent condition. Picturesque holes with tons of wildlife. Almost every hole has water but plenty of bailout room to the opposite side for those who don't hit is straight every time. I will be making this course a regular stop.
Greens were lightening fast
One of our most favorite courses to play when visiting Hilton Head. Our wives really like it. Course was in very good condition. The quickness of the greens was difficult to get use to. A lot of wildlife on the course.
Always enjoyed this course
Course was way over-booked. Had to wait 40 minutes for carts to come in before we could go out to play. Waited on every tee and in every fairway because of the heavy traffic. Could only finish 9 holes though we paid for 18. Disappointing.
Canadian? Forget about it!
It takes 3 days to have your application to enter the base vetted if you are a citizen of another country. We found out after making the reservation for the next day and then it seemed next to impossible to cancel because it was a “hot deal”, Not so hot a deal IMO. Fortunately the club house manager handled the cancellation with GolfNow.
Great course
We thoroughly enjoyed the great condition of the fairways, greens and tee boxes. The pace of play was brisk and we played the course in just over 3 1/2 hours. We would definitely return.
The course was a very pleasant surprise
Although an hour away from Hilton Head, it was well worth it, vey playable from the assorted tees for my wife and me. Excellent conditions with fast greens and we finished in 3/12 hours. A joy to play at a very reasonable price.
FIRST TIME
WE ENJOYED PLAYING THE COURSE AND THE WEATHER WAS GREAT. THE COURSE LAYOUT WAS GOOD AND THE GREENS WERE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE WITH ALL THE DRY WEATHER THIS YEAR. LOOK FORWARD TO PLAYING IT AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. PERSONNEL IN THE PRO SHOP AND THE SNACK BAR WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS. PACE OF PLAY WAS DECENT, 4 AND A HALF HOURS FOR 18 HOLES. IT WAS PRETTY CROWDED AND AN OUTING WAS BEING PLAYED EARLIER.
This course is a must play in The Low Country
Best greens I've putted on in the south! Conditions were excellent. Pace of play was incredible. Watch for the gators walking across fairways. Can't wait to get back and play it again! Keep it going such a great experience! We recommend this to everyone!
Fantastic S.C. Course
I decided to take a one hour and forty minute drive from Summerville today. I have heard for the longest time about The Legends Course. I'm very glad that I made the trip. The course was busy, but the pace of play was steady. The fairways at Legend are absolutely perfect. The greens have no blemishes at all, although the STIMP was about 10.5 on all the greens. Youch. The course is very fair but very challenging. Think before you tee it up as there is sand and water most everywhere. Make sure you put the ball in the fairway because the rough is quite unforgiving. Its not impossible to get out of the rough, but your ball may be about two inches deep. In addition, it's very rare that I play a golf course that is not lined with homes along the fairways. There are no homes to be seen, just nature. Wonderful and glorious nature. It's very refreshing. Wherever you live, make the drive to Paris Island, SC. They "Make Marines" here and a GEM of a course. Cheers.
best in the area
very well worth the trip from Walterboro/Charleston area...fairways running nicely...challenging pin placements and greens in good shape and rolling nicely....
“Non Resident” price
Heard great things about this course. That being said, this is the ONLY golf course in the low country that does not give a resident discount unless you live in the TWO neighboring counties. I have played everywhere in Hilton Head, Bluffton and the surrounding areas and have always been treated as a “local”. I live in Savannah, Ga by the way. Do yourself a favor and play another course that is as nice or better cheaper. Not worth the price to play here. Will NEVER play this course again. So much for being a former Marine. Semper Fi !!!
Special place to play
This was my second time making the trek to Parris Island. The first time we had to get out of our car and wait for it to be swept for bombs and whatnot. This time we just flashed ID and went right through. I know that sounds better, but it was a little disappointing. The only complaint I had was that the kitchen was closed when we walked in right at noon. The course was in great shape, wasn’t too busy and we were able to breeze around. There are plenty of tough holes mixed with scoreable ones. The real treat is the patriotism all over the facility. Playing alongside active duty Marines in their base is a great experience. I will always try to make sure I make a trip to Legends for at least one round when I’m down in the area.
