About

Holes 18
Type Military
Par 72
Length 6898 yards
Slope 131
Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Course in nice shape

Played here earlier this year. Course is in great shape, greens super fast. Only problem was fairways were pretty soggy due to rain four days ago. In another two days it should be fine. Back nine play was a little slow on the last 5 holes due to a large (4 carts) group ahead of us. They backed things up pretty bad but eventually we finished the round.

Terrific course

Excellent course, challenging and fair. Once isn't enough. Lots of ponds teeming with wildlife. Seeing troops on entry and exit is a mindful experience. Only disappointment, and this happens anywhere, was a slow playing foursome in front of us that never, ever had the cognitive ability to see no one was ahead of them but there was behind them. Waiting. Every. Hole. Maybe a Marshal would be a good touch. But this happens too often at too many courses.

Good news, bad news

About 4 hrs before tee time, forecast was 100% chance of rain...tried to change tee time, called Golf now and was informed NO cancellation or changing over the phone. Rules say you have to cancel or change. 1 hour before tee time. Sent password change request through your link about 3 hrs before tee time, received email from golf now at 12:38 pm acknowledging request. Website was not accessible until late PM...What can Golfnow give a patron that has booked 83 rounds through your website?

Great place to play

We always enjoy this course. It is in prime condition and the staff is friendly and efficient. We play here as much as possible in spite of it being an hour drive off HHI.

Fabulous day!!

Driving into to area where our Marines train gave us chills. And that was only the beginning. It was a bit convoluted finding the golf course because there was a road closure. It did , however, afford us a great tour of Parris Island and the Marine base. Staff was very helpful once we arrived. The course is beautiful!! Very forgiving, with wide, beautiful fairways. We traveled almost an hour to get to the course. A long trip, but we would take it again in a flash!!

Great course

First time here. Staff very friendly. Course in great shape. Greens super fast. Only problem is course is at back of base and it’s a long drive into the clubhouse. Also too many walkers playing which held us up quite a few times on tee boxes. Also tried to get a hot dog at the turn at 2:30 and snack bar closed at 2. Not good. Overall a very nice facility and we will come back.

Salute the marines on your way to golf

Really fine course for all the public to play. Fairly wide open compared to Hilton Head but just as pretty. Drive right through the training base.

Location unusual

There are no houses, no out of bounds which is most unusual for American courses!

The greens had been sanded although this did not affect their speed or quality.

Enjoyed our day.

Always a solid course

This is by far one of the best courses in SC. Course is always in near pristine conditions. Recently, the greens have been better than ever and tee boxes and fairways have very few blemishes. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Practice areas are worth the trip alone. Highly recommend this course

Awesome course!

In my opinion the best course in the area! Even with the greens being aerated, they still held, rolled true, and were in very good condition. I will be playing there more often.
