The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Good Day of Golf

Course was in great shape. Greens were very slick and ball didn’t bite real good. Course was hard to find on Parris Island. Military needs to put up more signs showing the way on and off.

Well maintained course

Best military course I have ever played!!! Pace of play was outstanding, our foursome finished in 3 hours and 40 minutes during a busy time of the day. I highly recommend.

Love this course

Wonderful track running thru the beautiful low country marsh. No houses and wildlife abounds. You will here occassional bursts of machine gun fire and jets overhead. Fun reminders that you are on the Marine Base.

Excellent value

Difficult to get to, but, really enjoyed the course. I would recommend for all abilities. The drive through the marine base is worth the trip. Paid $50. Way better value than what you can get on HH. Watch out 4 the big guy on 9.

Paris island

Staff was friendly, graduation day was the following day so they said it was uncharacteristically crowded which resulted in pace of play being brutally slow. Left after 9 holes. Went to get water on the course but no cups. Finding the place is difficult too, my gps sent me to a washed out bridge. Got a deal on a shirt though so I got that going for me. If you’re staying near the course go for it but don’t go out of your way.

An honor to play at Parris Island Marine Course

A special experience to be admitted to the marine base, travel through it, and enjoy a very fine low country course at the southern tip of the island. Big, open course with lots of charm and moderate challenges, especially on the back nine. We had perfect weather and great pace of play, 3.5 hours. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Found the course a pleasure to play. The greens were quick around 11. The fairways were a bit tight. Only thing, had a bit of trouble trying to find it.

Better signage

Nothing to do with the course, but we had trouble finding our way while on the base, a few more signs would help.

Legends Indeed

The Legends are apparent in the names given to each hole - a Marine legend from years past. My favorite was the par 3 third named after baseball great Roberto Clemente. Also, playing with a former Marine gave us perspectives into the course and the surrounding Parrish Island Marine Basic Training Base. One more notable was the prevalence of sizable alligators sunning on the banks of numerous water hazards.

The couse itself was in pristine shape for the time of year - fairways ran true, greens were fairly fast, water seemed to be everywhere but rarely in play, and bunkers had the soft kind of sand we'd love to see at our home courses. All this and we finished in under 4 hours.

We highly recommend this course even with the slow drive through the historic base to get to it. We will be back.

Love this course.

Course in good shape. Green smooth and true. Firm but held a well hit shot.

We had a tee time of 10:15 but when we arrived they told us it was 10:32. No big deal.

Bridge is out so need to detour through the base. Called pro shop for directions.

Plenty of recruit marine activity. Also a few alligators to enjoy.

Staff friendly and helpful.

Another great round

Greens are in great shape and lightning fast. Fairways are a little thin, but very well-maintained. Nice white fluffy sand in the traps. 3 1/2 hour round despite very crowded course for a Thursday morning. Manager and starter very accommodating, got us off the back nine to start because of a tee time mixup. Can’t beat the rate for retired military!
