The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Better signage
Nothing to do with the course, but we had trouble finding our way while on the base, a few more signs would help.
Always nice!
As usual the course was in great condition! Thanks for the hard work!
Bob
The course was great good shap saw lots of alligators and other animals. Great to see our troops working out. The people there were very nice. Go play the course lots of fun. The price was good on hot deal from golf now.
Legends Indeed
The Legends are apparent in the names given to each hole - a Marine legend from years past. My favorite was the par 3 third named after baseball great Roberto Clemente. Also, playing with a former Marine gave us perspectives into the course and the surrounding Parrish Island Marine Basic Training Base. One more notable was the prevalence of sizable alligators sunning on the banks of numerous water hazards.
The couse itself was in pristine shape for the time of year - fairways ran true, greens were fairly fast, water seemed to be everywhere but rarely in play, and bunkers had the soft kind of sand we'd love to see at our home courses. All this and we finished in under 4 hours.
We highly recommend this course even with the slow drive through the historic base to get to it. We will be back.
The Legends Delivers
I visit this course yearly. This pro takes his job seriously and makes it happen. This course believes in continual improvement. No large undertakings just always improving the conditions of the course. Staff very friendly and helpful. GReat place to play.
Love this course.
Course in good shape. Green smooth and true. Firm but held a well hit shot.
We had a tee time of 10:15 but when we arrived they told us it was 10:32. No big deal.
Bridge is out so need to detour through the base. Called pro shop for directions.
Plenty of recruit marine activity. Also a few alligators to enjoy.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Another great round
Greens are in great shape and lightning fast. Fairways are a little thin, but very well-maintained. Nice white fluffy sand in the traps. 3 1/2 hour round despite very crowded course for a Thursday morning. Manager and starter very accommodating, got us off the back nine to start because of a tee time mixup. Can’t beat the rate for retired military!
Parris Island
Good open and fair course. Greens were great and very quick. A good fun track!
Marine base
This course offered a great bang for the buck. Nestled in the marine base of Parris island . Many tees to choose based on your level . Course is level enough to walk. Staff is super friendly and course not crowded. Enjoy the ride in to see recruits marching. Makes you proud of our young men and women.
Great experience
Course in nice condition for this time of year...nice layout...greens and fairways in good shape...bunkers beautiful with soft sand.
Also, seeing the Marine base was awesome!
