The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
       About
The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.
The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.
The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Good experience.
Greens were in great shape. Fairly open layout. We ended up as a twosome which made a 4 hour and 15 minute round feel like 6 hours. The course was in good shape, the price was great. Make sure you bring all I D to get on to the base.
Beautiful layout and good pace of play
Course was crowded with all the carts out yet round still completed round in four hours. Lots of interesting water lined holes. I particularly like the backdrop views of wetlands from 12 and 13 greens. Looking for gators adds to the fun.
.
Dysfunctional
Place Needs better oversight at check-in. Very unorganized at check in. We had to wait for other golfers to get done with their round to get a cart. Then they made the group that loaded their cart in front us unload and give us their cart. Talk about awkward!!!
Nice layout
Nice course. Greens were in great shape and fast. Cool day and really windy made for quite a challenge. Looking forward to going back when the weather is better. The man in the the pro shop was very helpful and fun to talk to
Marines search vehicles before entering Parris Island!
Have your DL, vehicle registration and insurance card ready. Must be presented before entry. Without these, your vehicle will be impounded and you will be detained and fined. Then they search the vehicle. DO NOT bring alcohol, drugs or weapons.
Once you get past the gate, things get better. The golf staff is excellent. The greens are fast and smooth. The fairways and bunkers are OK. The tees are fair.
Very intimidating gaining entry. I recommend the course, but it may not be worth the hassle getting past the guards.
Parris Island, famously know for it's Marine training, has a fantastic golf course! Every time I've played Parris Island, the greens have been in fantastic condition. Some very scenic holes, and depending on the day you play, you'll see some Marines training. The course isn't difficult, fairly open, but a solid fun layout. The last round I played the course was in good condition in the winter, even after a lot of rain. Extremely friendly staff and you'll play a quick pace at a great course. Probably the best valued course you can play
Always An Enjoyable Experience
Regardless the time of year you can always expect an enjoyable round of golf at a very fair value for your money. The course is consistently well maintained where rarely there is a need to improve your lie. The “super” and his crew should be complimented for a job well done. Course design is everything you want in a course whatever your skill level, requiring course management as you negotiate your way through the 18 holes. After your round, you can enjoy a first rate prepared lunch (typical post golf fare) and ice cold beer at a very fair price. Hats off, to the Head Pro and his staff as they’re always interested in improving your future experiences at the course.
Thank you for your 5-star review! We try to provide a well-conditioned course and we've been busy this winter with a variety of improvements such as new tee boxes, bunkers and practice areas. Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your experience at The Legends!
Legends at Parris Island, SC
Love the course set up. Women get a lot of advantage off the tee. The greens were great; no imperfections or spike marks & they ran true.
Good place to play
This was my second round at Parris Island and I can't wait to play it in the summer. Dormant conditions but a great round just the same. They are working on the traps and I personally think there's too much sand in the fairway bunkers. But with most courses in the area having little sand or poorly maintained bunkers, I can't complain much.
A lot of wildlife, Marines on a run nearby and friendly staff, this is worth the hour drive from Savannah.
Great For Price
Paid $14 for 18 holes! It was better than courses three times its price!
Worth the trip.
A very nice, open, yet challenging course. If the wind was up the challenge would have quadrupled. Two notes... we're not US residents so entry to the base required getting the "Friends of Parris Island" pass. Takes a few days. Glad we did. Everyone we dealt with was super nice.
Other noteworthy observation... we happened to be golfing while an enactment or military exercise was occurring. Couldn't see it, but could hear the extraordinary drama of chaos and carnage. It was a bit unsettling and caused a genuine reality check. Most unique golf round I've had in years.
Oops
We were denied access to the base because of our citizen status (Canadian). Within two days we were cleared, but it was too late for our tee time. We will try again since the reviews sound terrific, but if you are not holding a US drivers license or a "Friend of Parris Island" pass you will be not be golfing until you are approved. A nugget that would have helpful to have before we purchased the GolfNow tee time the evening prior.
Great Value Course
Course is one of the best in the Lowcountry. Tee boxes and greens were in great condition. Food menu was lacking, but this place has great practice facilities. Highly recommend.
Perfect day and great golf course
The course was in very good shape considering the grass is going dormant for the winter. Greens fast but true. There is plenty of water and sand traps on the course, but it not too difficult as there is plenty of room. The approach to greens is pretty open and level. A great course to walk. It was "family day" at Parris Island MCRD so the recruits were with their family getting ready for graduation the next day.
We just needed to show driver's license to get on the base, but be sure to have current vehicle registration and proof of insurance just in case.
We were a 2-some and followed a 4-some - played in 3.75 hours = good pace of play.
We saw 5 alligators - one about 12 feet long!
Loved it and would play again.
Marines excel
Enjoyable scenic golf course. Very, very fast greens since the Bermuda has stopped growing. We'll be back many times even though its a 90 minute drive.
Excellent experience
My first time and I will return even though it was about an hour drive. Nice range and snack bar. Played through a couple of groups ( I was a twosome). Greens were very fast and layout weaved between ponds and marshes.
Easy entrance into the base and was inspiring watching the recruits as we drove through. Worth the drive to play!

Thank you for your nice review of the golf course! Regarding the gate: there is no penalty for not having your ID. Vehicles cannot be impounded nor can anyone be fined. Since this is a Military base, everyone who enters must have proper ID; but we welcome ALL players to enjoy the amazing experience of playing at The Legends!
