Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

Dissapointed

I’ve read all the reviews and I disagree completely that this is a great course. It’s fair at best. The only “good” thing about it was the greens. The hassle to get on base was amplified by the fact that our names “were not on the list” of golfers provided by the golf course. Our car was searched as if we were terrorists and we were kept in a trailer for 45 minutes waiting for an escort to the course - who never came. By the time we made it to the course, we had missed our tee time and were hustled to the first tee without a warm up. The pro shop was pretty rude about it all and our inquiry about former military duty rates. We were paired with a military member who gave the impression he was annoyed by us and rushed us through the round. The entire experience gave us the impression that everyone there was inconvenienced by us civilians. I’m not going back, especially when there are plenty of other and similarly priced options.

Hidden Low country Gem

The Legends course at Parris Island is one of the best layouts and best kept public courses in the low country. Smooth lush fairways and fast greens. The layout is challenging for all skill levels with some forced carries, wind exposed greens, and a lot of water. I always enjoy playing this course and with the hot deal of $14 through GolfNow it was a no-brainer.

Nice course, great value.

Course was in very nice condition. Pace of play was good, relatively fast. Greens in very good condition, rolled true, and a bit difficult to read.

Worth the drive

We played the Legends course on a hot day in June. Fortunately, the course had plenty of drinking water available. The layout is very good, with some straightforward holes and some with hazards coming into play. Our biggest complaint was the greens. They are Bermuda with a lot of exposed sand - causing graininess and bumpiness. But the course layout makes up for the greens. And the experience of playing on a USMC base was fantastic. Two fighter jets flew right over us on the fourth green - an awesome sight to see. The gentleman in the pro shop was extremely nice and very informative. It's worth the drive to play there.

One of the finest courses in the area. Greens were being worked on, but teeboxes and everything else was great. Highly recommend.

Good layout

Mostly straight away, but quite a bit of lateral water. Watch out for the alligators! Note when making reservations that the Golfnow rate quoted will be the active military rate. (Course is at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.). John Q Citizen pays $55, but good value. Beer and range balls are more than reasonable. Don’t miss the target range silhouettes on the driving range. Semper Fi!!

First Time Playing Legends

My husband and I enjoyed our round of golf at the Legends. The course was in good condition. We enjoyed the layout of the course and the fact that it is truly in a natural setting - lots of wildlife to see. We would definitely return to play again.

Golf course was in great shape and a ton of fun to play. Even though the course see lots of rounds, was in great condition. Layout was fun with different types of holes, forcing you to go through your whole bag. Staff was fantastic, very friendly head professional and other staff.

Would love to come back!

Outstanding Conditions and GREAT prices

The course is a hidden gem of the SC Lowcountry. The cost value for this course can't be beat. The condition of the course this early in the spring is a true testament to the superintendent. The greens are lush, fast and near perfect. The setting is true South Carolina at its best, my home sweet home, This is what Beaufort County looked like 50 years ago when I first came. This is not a stuffy HHI Country Club environment, it is just GOLF, as it should be. If you don't understand, I feel sorry for you.

Bang for the buck!

This course is one of the best maintained and well priced golf experiences in the low country. Beautiful links style layout that is both challenging and fair. The greens are some of the smoothest and fast in the area...especially for the price. With the fresh bunkers the course looks great. My favorite course in Beaufort County!

Marine Base

Great layout. We walked and finished in 3:20. Great atmosphere being on a Marine Base in the low country with many holes on the water. Fairly open course with good greens
