Added to the regular rotation once again!
We like to stay close when we can, we'd rather golf than drive to and fro. We had an amazing experience yesterday. The course is in gorgeous condition. We'd not been here for 2+ years, due to an unpleasant experience on our last visit. We have completely changed our minds. Staff members were welcoming and cheerful, the course Ranger was exceptionally helpful. He kept the course moving, and shared friendly conversation. The restaurant looks beautiful and the restrooms are CLEAN and well stocked, both in the club house and on the course. We have already rebooked for next week!
Rio Pinar
Course was in great shape considering they had just sanded and rolled the front nine the day before. My buddy and I didn’t play our best, but still had a good time, and while the temperature rose we had a gentle breeze all day. Then we finished it off with Birria tacos in the clubhouse.
I like this course
I play here about once a month and usually enjoy it...today the rough was 6" deep probably due to wet conditions but finding a ball 2 feet off the fairway very annoying...they location regulators on their cart that were totally messed up...driving down the middle of a fairway and the cart would stop...generally I find them a very unattractive aspect to the round
RandyH
Great day on the links at Rio. They have really invested
In the club house and the range…. Top notch
Good Course
After lots rainfall over the last 2 plus weeks the course is finally drying out some and allowing for some mowing of the fairways. Still some wet spots but drying out. The rough was little long because of the weather but still a fun course.
Horrible
Cost the four of us 270.00 to play this course and we're told no carts availible due to weather conditions so we would have to walk. So we bought pull carts and said ok we'll walk. It was my two sons birthday present so it didn't matter to them as they wanted to play this course on their birthday. We were told for the inconvenience we would get a 15.00 per person credit that was denied at check in. We were also told we would get range balls, we did , about 20 for the four of us and the range was destroyed. Grass mats with no tees. They have flight scopes on everyday that weren't installed or working but advertised as they had them. We need off on time and walked the first hole. It was a swamp literally. We looked behind our steps to see the pull carts left ruts in the fairway and our feet sunk 1 to 2 inches in water and mud. We thought maybe hole 1 was just bad so we tried hole number 2 and it was even worse. The greens had more mud on them than grass. Our bags were covered in mud, shoes soaked, socks wet and if you golf you can imagine how hard it is to hit the ball out of mud in the middle of the fairway or putting trough puddles and mud. This was the worst condition of any course I've ever played. I play on the Golf weely ameture tour and am a scratch golfer. I play many courses and this one had me shaking my head in disbelief that the managment would even let ANYONE even walk the course let alone golf on it. The course told be honest should have been closed to anyone because the course was honestly under water in multiple locations. The managment staft should have done the tight thing and called me the day before and said the course was unplayable but they didn't mention how terrible their course was they just wanted my 270.00 apparently. Anyway after number 2 we left. It was just to soaked and really not playable and definitely not fun. My pour sons birthday was ruined. We were turned down on a refund because we booked through Golf Now. I sent Golf Now an email and yo no surprise no email or call back on our issue.
I will NOT do buisness with Golf Now ever again nor will I ever go back to Rio Pinar to play their course even if it ever drys out. 270.00 to play 2 holes? Thanks managment at Rio Pinar and Golf Now for protecting a customer that's been with you for over a decade. You just lost a valued client. I know I'm only one of millions and that's OK but to treat a customer like this, I'll definelty create a post and give my opinion of the course and Golf Nows customer service. If I had negative ratings to click on i would but it only allows you to put 1 star but in writing, if you're planning on booking through Golf Now and or playing Rio Pinar, I can't stress enough to you, DO NOT USE GOLF NOW OR BOOK AT THIS COURSE you're experience will be as mine is, terrible.
Horrible
I booked this course early in the week for my kids birthday present. I booked for 4 people the cost was 270.00. The pro shop called me on Friday before our scheduled tee time and said there would be no carts availible because of the rain they had received that day. We decided it wasn't an issue that we would walk. We went out and bought pull carts just for this round because my son really wanted to play this course for his birthday. We were also told by the proshop we would get a 15.00 per person discount for the inconvenience and range balls as well. We arrived at thw course after driving 1 1/2 hours away from where we live, checked in and the proshop wouldn't give us the promised 15.00 per person discount and they gave four of us maybe 30 balls to hit on the range. We tried off on the first hole and the course had so much water on it the tee boxes, fairways and greens that the pull carts left ruts from pulling the cart. Before getting to the first green all four of our shoes were soaked from walking through standing water all over the course. The greens were basically un-putable as they had so much mud the ball wouldn't roll because it was picking up mud and water. The course in my opinion was unplayable. We played the next hole hoping it was better than the first but it was worse. We pulled our carts to the truck and left because seriously the course shouldn't have even been opened at all. The proshop should have NEVER alowed anyone to play until their course dried out but it cost me 270.00 to play 2 holes and my son birthday round was ruined. The course told me they couldn't not would they refund me I had to go through Golf Now where I booked the tee time and there isn't a single number to get a hold of Golf Now to request a refund so now I'm out 270.00, the cost of the pull carts we bought x4 the gas to travel an hour and a half and my sons birthday was ruined.
I would have rather the Rio Pinar managment called me and told me please don't come.out here because the conditions were very bad and not playable other than basically stealing my money for us to find our we needs rafts to play the course.
Golf Now is a joke as well as they don't care about their customers just money.
They NEED a customer service number to let their customers contact them in cases like this. That was my first time going to Rio Pinar and it was my last time.
Please beware if they tell you there are no carts available for your round DO NOT go because the course will be more than flooded.
This is also the first time in 51 years of me living that I ever wrote a review on any site so you can imagine how hurt the four of us are for wasting our hard earned money.
Rain
Unfortunately the course had to close due to a lot of rain lately. But I have played there a few times and thoroughly enjoyed each experience. I always bring treats for the squirrels.
Pace of play
Beautiful course and friendly staff, wet spots form the rain but nothing you can do about that. However, the pace of play sucked. There was a ranger at the beginning who said expect it to be a little slow. But the people in front of us were so slow. They would stop with the cart lady an average of 10 mins a time which ended up being 3-4 times for the day. Someone really needs to be out there to monitor. When I mentioned it to the pro shop he said they were short handed. When I was leaving there was about 5 people that worked for the golf portion just standing around.
Great course
Pace of play was a bit slow, hard to get into a rhythm. Course was in great shape.
Great Course
The opportunity to play a historic golf course with “gangster squieerls” at a great price! DO IT
Great course great staff
The staff were very accommodating and eager to talk about the course and guide me and my group on where things were. We will play there again soon
Great course!
The course was in really good shape! challenging but not over the top! Pace of play was good! Fox squirrels all over the place, super friendly (almost too friendly..lol). People were very friendly, driving range was really nice! Great value for the Price!
Great course kinda felt rushed.
First off my group are not the best group of golfers. We played as a 4some all teed off and the played best ball. On the 6th hole ranger was giving us the Hurry it up motion with his hand from 30 yards away. Mind you our cart said we were 8 minutes behind pace okay cool we get it. Next few holes we're down to 3 minutes behind and this dude is following us just off in the distance glaring. Felt kinda like we were being pushed through as it seemed other people did too as there were stray balls ALL OVER this course 6 on on green. It is what it is we didn't let it bother us but felt off putting. Anyway great course super fast greens cute squirrels. Might play again.

Mr. GM, I appreciate your response but when told there would be no carts availible due to the rain received the last few days your pro shop person should have stated that the course was not "wet" but should have said the course is a swamp right now. Sir, my review was based off of the experience I and my sons had on their birthday that they picked YOUR course to play. They could have picked any course but they pick Rio Pinar. I would have had more respect and understanding if you all would have just said you had standing water and mud in the fairways than to say it was playable when asked. As far as my "credit" I never recieved on from Golf Now nor did Golf Now reach back out to me when I sent them and email about a refund due to what happened. Golf Now needs to do the right thing but again, I haven't heard from them because they got their money.
I was super excited to play your course that Sunday but was very very disappointed once we got there and walked the first hole.
We were told by your pro shop employee we would be credited 15.00 per player and we were not. We also were told we'd get range balls and the employee gave us codes to get balls as there was maybe 14 balls in each basket. OK fine but regaurdless sir if you got that much rain you should have never had anyone walking or not playing on the course as it was probably not a good idea just for the greens themselves to date off of them until it dried out.
We did go play a course after we left close to you that was very dry and we had no issues with standing water so the amount of rain you speak of must have just been at your course unfortunately.
I apologize for the low rating review but we wrote the way we saw it. I hope your course is dry now. I was going to call you but I was told Golf Now had to handle it so I decided not to call you as even you said you don't have control over a hot deal through Golf Now. Have a good day sir
Dear Jrusso6512,
As General Manager of Rio Pinar Golf, I want to comment on your post and correct a few points of your review. I will try to make this in point form so that my comments are direct to your issues you have mentioned in your review:
1. Over the past 2 weeks, Rio Pinar has received over 14" of rain.
2. We were closed from Thursday September 5th until we opened up for one day this past Saturday September 14th. We received again close to an inch on Saturday afternoon which caused us to close the course to golf carts on Sunday the 15th, the day you played.
3. As you say, we did call on Saturday to advise all players that we would be closed to golf carts but due to a number of guests requesting the opportunity to walk, we said we would allow that and informed all guests called on Saturday of that option, of which you choose to do knowing that if we weren't allowing carts and that it had rained that day, that the course would be wet.
4. The $15 credit was indeed provided back to you by GolfNow and confirmed by them to us at approx. 10:30am on Sunday when we called and requested it. The reason we at Rio Pinar Golf could not provide a refund of the $15 was that you booked a discounted Hot Deal rate directly through GolfNow and they collect the money, we do not. So that was something you did directly with GolfNow and they had to, which they did, provide you the credit. As well, any over all round refund, once again if requested by you, would have to be done by GolfNow as Rio Pinar Golf does not receive any monies from the sale of a Hot Deal, that is sold by GolfNow, so you would need to go through them and yes, weekends they are not fully staffed but I am sure if you called Monday they would have considered the refund and would have called us to confirm course conditions as they did offer the $15 credit quite readily when requested by Rio Pinar Golf on your behalf.
5. As for the course conditions, anyone living in Florida for the past 2+weeks would know how much rain Florida has received with some areas receiving more than others. Over the past 10 days we were able to cut tee&greens every other day but fairways, rough etc have not been cut for over 10days and were long although on the Saturday the day before, we did get out to cut approx. 11 of our 18 fairways/approaches that we could cut. The Sunday morning after the rain Saturday, the greens did not get cut due to how wet and soft they were and the inability of our crew to move around the course safely and efficiently.
6. To address whether we should or should not have been open, we did have a number of people walk and play. They all agreed it was wet but they were all well aware of the conditions and what to expect and after being closed for 10 days, they just wanted to play. While your opinion was that the course should have been closed, that was not shared by all but you are definitely entitled to that opinon.
7. Rio Pinar Golf called you, told you that there were no carts due to the fact that we had received rain and that the course was wet yet you made the decision to purchase pull carts, drive 1 1/2 hours and you chose to come play. I don't see where Rio Pinar Golf was "stealing your money" and I personally feel your whole review is unfair to Rio Pinar Golf and to Golf Now.
Conclusion
While Rio Pinar Golf cannot provide any refunds on Hot Deals, I know that Golf Now is responsive and more than fair on dealing with refunds should your experience not meet the expectations and while maybe they couldn't do anything on Sunday, I am sure that they would have addressed it in some way on Monday. As for Rio Pinar Golf's side of your criticism, we did all we could to inform you of the course conditions and you made the decision to play, yet...you want us to be held responsible for that decision. I don't agree with you, I don't agree with your comments about Rio Pinar Golf stealing your money and your over all assessment of Rio Pinar Golf and our staff and I think that you should take up whatever issues you have with GolfNow that you projected upon Rio Pinar Golf, directly with them.
Thank you,
Tom Jackson
