Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Not a ranger friendly course
Our round would have been much more enjoyable if the rangers hadn’t tried to PUSH us through our round. There was one group behind us at least 1 1/2 holes behind so we didn’t know why we were being pushed. The ranger even asked that we split our foursome into two groups so we would play faster. We refused. We were 12 minutes behind an unreasonably 2 hr time limit when two of the par 4 holes were cart path only. When we finished nine the ranger told us there was a nine hole group going off behind us and we should let them go through. So the reason we were pushed was to let the nine hole group play faster. They never did catch up so the constant bullying was unnecessary.
Must Play on HHI
This is the best conditioned " a;; access" course in the HHI area. Unless you want to pay $200 or more in Sea Pines, this is the one that gives you the same quality greens and course conditioning, especially in March.
Staff Harrasment
Ranger harassed my group (4 foursomes) at least 6 times even though we were at the heels of the group ahead of us. he didn't even know what our starting time was, and when he found out, he did not let up, but continued to bother us. Will never play there again. we have played Hilton Head yearly for 28 years, and have never been treated this badly - there or any other course. They are trying to rezone the course to residential development which explains the rudeness of the entire staff.
Treatment
Being harassed for an erroneous pace of play on several holes. Insulting situation for a group consisting of 16 golfers. We will never return for being bothered unprofessionally while playing, over and over without the ranger having any idea about our pace. Customer service and appreciation at the lowest level we ever faced in Hilton Head. Terrible experience ruined by uninformed people and no one responsible to address situation.
Another enjoyable visit
Have come to Hilton Head in each of the last four years and always include Hilton Head National as a must play.
Again in 2018 - Always a Treat.
Greens were true and in special shape for March.
These folks put money into Maintenance and it's so appreciated.
Heard a dirty rumour the property has been sold and a real estate project is on the horizon.
Please tell me the horizon is a long way in the future.
Do yourself a favour and enjoy Hilton Head National before it's too late.
Wonderful experience
Our first time playing HHNGC and it was a wonderful track. The conditions for this time of year were the best we have seen, the topography was a welcome change from the normally flat courses we have played, and we will look forward to coming back again before we leave. Certainly worth the trip to Bluffton!
highlight of our trip!
Its a Great course for the money. Considering what you will pay for other courses in the area that are are no where near as good a shape. The Staff is friendly and helpful and the carts have GPS! Most in the area do not, and charge more. Why is that important? Yardage? Sure but the reality is you get a good course view as you approach the Tee box and it really helps to know where you are going. The course is fairly tough but well kept. Greens a little fast but we had some wind as well that day so I cant say if its all due to weather. Overall, WE will be back and loved playing there!
My new must play in Hilton Head!
Just played Hilton Head National and I can't say enough good things about it.
The course is in fantastic shape for this time of year and the greens are immaculate and roll true. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. Besides the rain in the middle of the round there was just one other thing that would've made the round better and that would be pace of play on this particular day.
I booked as a single and was told upon arrival that I would be paired with another Single which was great. The first groups out this particular day was a large "college bro" golf group playing their own "tournament" with Hilton head national being their final round. There must've been 12 or 13 of them playing in a mix of foursomes and threesomes and at one point of the round we saw 7 of them playing together. Myself and the other single were checked in and we were ready to go but the starter decided to keep to his tee sheet and let the large group tee off instead of offering the opportunity for myself and the other single to sneak out to the first tee and get ahead of them. Unfortunately this caused the round to reach almost up to 5 hours. The bag attendant after the round apologized profusely to us which was really appreciated.
Besides the long round and the hour or so of rain this course exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to play it under warmer dryer conditions.
HH National friday
The course conditions were good relative to others we played in the HH area this week. All courses still are in late winter mode, however, The course is very forgiving, except for the wooded areas if you go there. The GPS /rangefinders on the carts are a very nice touch that many courses in the area do not have, but the price is a little higher than other courses also. The staff will push you to stay on time if you tarry, which is good to avoid slow pace of play. Many other courses do not do this and they sometimes are very slow. Overall, of several moderately priced courses we played, this is our first choice
Beautiful rolling course
Enjoyed this course more than most due to how it reminded us of the courses back home. There are multiple fairways that were rolling, versus the typical flat fairways found in Hilton Head. Great GPS system in the carts too. Course was is pretty good shape for March 9th. Pace of play was 4 hrs 15 min, which was fast considering we waited just about on every hole. A little pricy, but course is very nice.
Really good layout. Friendly staff. Could play here every day.
Hilton National
Very nice course. Not many water hazards to play across, some lateral. Drink cart on the course. Play was kept up, our foursome finished in 3:35.
Nice Layout
Great course ,greens good condition and very subtle undulating . Play was a bit slow but tolerable
Course in great shape!
Hilton Head National is always a great place to play. Beautiful day and course was fantastic. Definitely will come back.
Best greens we played at Hilton Head!
Wonderful course in great condition. Good variety of hole designs. Possibly top 5 of any greens I've played.
Hilton Head National
Very friendly and courteous staff. Very good layout and greens were excellent. Will play again.
A Homerun for starting your season of golf!
The course was in great shape for this time of year. Greens ran true and the fairways were greening up due to the unseasonably warm weather the past week and a half. Staff was great from counter to cart people to starter. Of the various public/semi-private courses available this one is the best you will find. It's also great for low handicap (play the blacks) and for intermediate to seniors. It's a must play for me.
Love this course
This course is always in good condition. One of the best in this area. (Public courses).
Hello, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're happy to hear you enjoyed your round with us and hope to see you again for another round soon. Thanks for playing #HiltonHeadNational!
