Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Typical Hilton Head Course
Played this course on a Friday with my brother on a trip to Hilton Head Island. Got a great deal on Golf Now but was very disappointed in the conditions of the course . Part of this was due to having played Harbor Town and Atlantic Dunes in days previous as they were both in excellent shape with smooth greens. This course was more like the munis I play in Phoenix with semi green fairways greens that look good but were bumpy and somewhat slow. Would not recommend course if you are traveling from out of state as their are far better courses in the area. Again got a great deal on course but others were available as well on the day and would have booked one of them instead.
Friendly staff and nice conditions
Course was in great shape, especially for February. Staff was friendly as well. Golf carts had GPS which helped keep pace of play fast. Gnats/‘No see ‘ems’ were bad; recommend taking some bug spray... would have been nice if course had put some towels in the carts like other courses in area. Will definitely play again.
Fun course
Wide fairways in good condition, very nice greens and very fair and fun course for average players!
Great Course
Love the layout of Hilton Head National. In the area, it's my favorite daily fee public course. Other courses may have more scenery or better amenities, but from a hole-by-hole design perspective, it's a great layout. Condition of the course is always good. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth the effort to play.
Nice course, very good facilities. It was a good value and we will return again.
Very nice public course in fantastic shape! Greens were around 10-11 on stimp and rolled well! Green complexs were tough with several false fronts. Would definitely play again!
Excellent
I always enjoy this course. Course is challenging and Staff are great.
Greens in good shape.
Greens are in good shape. Green and roll
well. The rest of the course is yellow of course during winter. Not bad considering the price and the pace of play was great. Friendly staff.
Much improved
I played this course frequently this summer, but not in about 4 months. Stumbled on this Hot Deal and jumped on it. They course is in outstanding condition -- and was a joy to play. Greens were medium speed as they have been overseeded -- but not too slow. Ball rolled true...fairways rough were in solid winter shape. Bunkers have been improved since the summer...
This is not the hardest course -- wide fairways make driving easier...but it is a fun course and green complexes can be challenging. We had a wonderful afternoon of winter golf...with a temp of about 73.
Very good golf course
Played by myself on a very cold day, so course not crowded. Plenty of challenges but not overly hard. Many very attractive holes. Nice staff. Recommended !!
Great course, cold weather made it empty
The weather was pretty chilly and Breezy so I pretty much had the course to myself. Conditions of the course were very good for January, and of course layout is nice. Although shot placement in Club selection is important, this course doesn't provide an overly punishing set of Hazards if you aren't on your best game. Greens were in fantastic condition, rolled true and fast.
Pleasure to play
Have played Hilton Head National many times over the years and have NEVER been disappointed. Always a pleasure!

Mgmt needs to get a clue
Nice course but shortest yardage for men is 5628. Most area courses have a USGA course rating and slope of less than 5628 yards for men. Ever heard of Tee It Forward? Very easy and low cost to add a rating for older men.
I won't be back until you get a clue.
An honest test of golf
The National is an honest test of golf. It’s a very fair course an kept in excellent condition. The greens ran well and true good speed on them. Recommend it to anyone we were the only ones on our nine they started us on the tenth so we flew round.
Wow. Very surprised by this review. Played this course 3/2/18. Great shape overall and thought the greens were really nice. Oh well. He must have had a bad day.
OK, this guy needs a reality check. The courses he is comparing HH Nat'l too run anywhere from 3 to 4 times the cost. If his game matches those prices he should stick to the high end and not try to compare more affordable courses to them. Jeezes, get a life!! I defy him to find a nicer course at the same price in Hilton Head!!
