About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Favorite Course in Hilton Head
Very fair course. Great for all levels of players. Have always enjoyed whoever they have paired me up with
Great course
Greens are in great shape. They are working hard to keep improving the course. Look forward to playing here again. One of the few courses to have a Marshall to keep things moving. Highly recommend!

Really good course...enjoyed the round
First time at the National and we really enjoyed our day's golf. Well looked after, plenty of sand in those bunkers, greens true and fast.

Hard to beat this...
Excellent conditions overall. Driving range perfectly maintained. Greens fast (10 plus) and in excellent shape. Fairways superb for this time of year, Dormant Bermuda rough reasonably playable.
Played with a local regular and a visiting teen from Montreal (great junior golfer and fun to watch) in a little under four hours.
Just wish my play could have matched the course. I will certainly be back

Disappointed with condition
We play National almost every year and have always enjoyed the layout and condition of the course. However the condition of the course was not good this time. It was not worth the green fees charged even with the GolfNow special deal. There was evidence of a lot of sod laid in various areas on the course and fairways were in rough condition. There was construction on the course. Pro shop staff were friendly and efficient.

Nice Track But...

Tee offs on par 3s in rough shape
Fairways good
Greens great 10 on the stimp meter ie fast hold a mid iron, and roll true. stay below the pins...
Bunkers soft and firm base easy to play.
Rough dormant easy length to play out of.
Problem due to I assume heavy rains is collection areas, were muddy tapped down sparse lies. Hard to chip off.
Kinda pricey compared to other courses in the area, but track layout is interesting. Have to position ball well to score.

Not quite up to the hype
Had heard from several golfers on Hilton Head that this course was worth playing. Perhaps it was the pace of play that made it seem average at best. 2 foursomes ahead of us so we watched every shot. Greens are good, lots of subtle breaks. The layout is not terribly challenging, you miss the fairway you are inevitably in pine straw. Water only comes into play on total miss hits. I am a 14 handicap and I never lost a ball which is a rarity.
If you are on HHI I would stick with Cupp, Golden Bear at Indigo or Dolphin Head.

Very Good Experience
I will first clarify my Fair rating for Off Course Amenities. This rating is based strictly on the fact the bar closed before we were finished, disappointing. We finished shortly after 5 and were definitely not the last people off the course. Everything else was first rate, from the welcome at the bag drop to the pro shop and starter. We waited a few minutes on most holes but even then we were only shortly over 4 hours. Course is in great shape and only a couple holes cart path only, not bad considering the amount of rain lately. All in all a very good day.

Exceeded my expectations!
Beautiful day and I wanted to play golf, so got online and found it easy to get a tee time. The starter was extraordinary, with a crowded course he expertly joined singles and started each group to make a wonderful 9 hole experience.
The course was impeccable, the system on the carts was easy, the greens were great.
Even Kristy in the snack bar was great, efficient, personable. Cannot day enough good things.

First trip to Hilton Head
Traveled to Hilton Head for the day only to get out of the rain in NE Georgia. Perfect weather day and a very helpful, friendly staff made it worth the trip. The course was in really good condition for mid-February. Turkeys and alligators seen on the course were a bonus!

Absolutely beautiful!!
The pace of play was great. The course is in fantastic shape, and the scenery is spectacular!
If I lived in the area, this would be the course that I would buy a membership to play everyday.
The wildlife is very interesting- from the black-faced squirrels, the all black squirrels, the alligators, the birds, and the wild turkeys.
I can’t wait to play again!

Hurry up and wait
First timer .......last timer
Had a 2pm Tee Time
Arrived 30 minutes early
Was told we would be following a group of 16 players ( who already played 18) We easily could have gone out first but nooooooooo, wait in line
Needless to say we went off late
Then ......wait,wait,wait,wait on every hole!
Very poor course management ( oh right they bragged. About their latest technology where they can track every golf cart on the course)
Never again
Ps course was nice and we spent a good deal of time watching the grass grow
