Plush, Prestine, and Perfection
Absolute hidden gem in Monterey/Carmel area and totally worth the visit. If you love golf, your in for an absolute treat!!
Quail Lodge
Rode the Blacks (6464/71.3/128) in about 4H, 15M with Matt, Ron and Justin twilight. Bright and chilly with a slight breeze most of the afternoon.
Classic Robert Muir Graves par 71 design. Beautiful, tree lines layout. I thought the layout was very good but not great with 18 solid holes of golf. However, the playing conditions were great overall.
Tees lush and near immaculate except for todays divots.
Fairways lush and very well maintained with few unfixed divots. Looked like carpet.
Rough lush and well maintained. Just deep enough to make you think twice about longer clubs.
Sand was thick and excellent quality, very well maintained.
Greens had been recently punched with small tynes that IMO hardly affected the way they putted. Quick and smoother than you would think. I thought I saw the lines well but consistently played too little break. You better not be above a few of the pins on several holes, #4 comes prominently to mind.
Customer service excellent, saw the drink cart several times and the starter was on the ball and informative. Carts had nice GPS and there were numerous restrooms on the course. All grass driving range with complementary balls was a plus, however it topped out at about 200 yards. Really solid course, highly recommended.
PRISTINE
I recently got to play Pebble, Spyglass and Spanish bay
Those courses were really awesome and The history and beauty of Pebble was indescribable
That being said- Quail Lodge was honestly the most immaculately maintained and groomed course I’ve ever played. I almost felt guilty hitting balls off the fairways as I didn’t want to damage the grass. Haha
I was paired up with a local member who was really helpful and polite. So that was a big help
The pace was pretty good on the front but slowed a lot on the back. I was a little concerned with the snobbish attitude I read about on a couple reviews, but everyone I spoke to was very polite and professional
Can’t wait to play it again On the pricey side for sure but worth it
Definitely in my top 3 all time and I’ve played every where
From Hawaii to Arizona and other countries
So if you get a chance? PLAY IT!!
Need to enhance features
There’s no cart person and the snack bar was not open. With the quality of the course and price it doesn’t make sense not to have everything open!
Great conditions.
Great conditions but found pace of play sadly slow.
Great overall condition but pricey
We have played Quail several times and enjoy the lush fairways and perfectly manicured greens. Played from the tips this round (6 handicap) and found several holes long but a fun challenge. Not crowded at all and pace of play was good. Our only complaint is that Edgars, the restaurant, doesn't open until 11am so don't count on having breakfast or even coffee before you tee off in the morning. Quail offers a "country club" experience as it should at this price. Also Quail Lodge is a great place to stay for a Carmel Valley vacation.
A lush and relaxing course
Things you will appreciate how green and well maintained the course is. The location is beautiful. Its nice and quiet, open course design with out the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere.
Overpriced
Amenities are below standard. Very small pro shop, no snacks and drink carts and forget about getting your clubs clean when you finish your round.
Great Course, Unfriendly Staff
It’s always enjoyable to play this beautiful course. Not being wealthy, I appreciate the hot deals that occasionally bring this course into our price range. We grabbed one this weekend, and headed down early to fight the Bay Area traffic to the Monterey Peninsula. Upon arrival, we normally just check in with the starter. But I headed into the clubhouse to buy some overpriced sunscreen. The 3 staff members saw me, but they were commenting on people at the driving range and did not turn around to help me for a few minutes. When one finally turned, she didn’t say hello, but told another to help me. He did, but he seemed to be having a grumpy day. No smile, no welcome, no hello. This is not the first time at Quail the staff has been poor at customer service. There was also no drink cart on the course, which was disappointing. Nonetheless, the marshal on the course was very good; he kept the pace going and it was a truly enjoyable round. We’ll be back (for the hot deals), but we will make sure to have all we need (including sunscreen) so we can avoid the pro shop and just check in directly at the starter.
Ok course
Overpriced. The staff barely spike to me. I had to ask where 1st tee was. I got there early so i could hit balls on the range but it was closed. They were mowing at 11am. I caught up to a twosome who were very nice and i played with them.
