Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Nice course
Wish they told us they sanded the greens but they still rolled fast…Not sure why only some of the fairways looked liked they were over-seeded.. but I always make a point to play this course when I’m in town.. still a great course..
A beefed up Encanto
Grand Canyon University lies on similar land to Encanto, but is longer and more difficult. Both courses are not particularly interesting, and in my mind GCU is way overpriced. I play Aguila (another city course) most of the time, and it is far better for half the price.
Excellent value
Very good condition and the staff were very accommodating. Bit of a drive from North Scottsdale but the price of golf in Scottsdale has become ridiculous. Courses that used to be $50-$60 3 years ago are now over$100 and they’re definitely not worth that.
Big course
Pick the correct tees. Hard to lose a ball, many holes seem to repeat but still interesting due to bunker placement. Could use more sand in some of the bunkers.
Ok course
Challenging in the rough and lots of sand traps. Good value.
Lengthy challenge
I love that it is a long course with several dogleg and many bunkers so you have to play smart. Unlike most desert courses, it has its fair share of tall trees as well. I would play again for sure.
GCU Early Morning Late October 2022
Course is in great shape after fall overseeding.
Stop by restaurant for a great Pastrami Sandwich and a drink to close out a great golf day!
Interesting course
The course is flat, but the layout is interesting. I played the black tees, and it measured over 6700 yds. Most of the par 3's were long--like, 175-210 yards. There were many long par 4's (450+ yards), but a few were 330-380 yards, and those were the scoring holes. Par 5's were mostly manageable, in the mid 500 yards. Most of the greens are well protected by large bunkers. A few holes had water in play. I can tell that they just overseeded the fairways, so that was nice. The greens, however, had way too much sand in them. That was the worst part of the play.
All in all, an interesting course. I can't justify the green fee at $100 however. It really should be in the $70's.
Brown fairways
Greens were slow and fairways were brown. Ok layout but not worth the time of playing under these conditions
The course was in great condition.
The course was in great condition. The greens ran slow but overall very pleased
Great Greens
The course itself is just kind of ok. The greens were fabulous way better than expected.
Perri
The greens were pristine and rolled true.
Unfortunately the fairways had just been prepared for over seeding as I would have liked to have experienced the course as it was intended.
I did however benefit from the roll of the scraped surface LOL! The bunkers were cavernous and were the consistency of concrete. Staff and facilities were great. Will definitely come back when I return too the valley of the sun :)
Still good
Overall this course is really good and the staff is friendly. I'd definitely come back again
