Grand Canyon University Golf Course

Played mid day so it was a little slow on vacation so didn’t really care Friendly and Professional staff. They could use a larger range though

After it took 2.5 hours just to make it to the the eighth hole, I called the pro shop and said what was going on. The girl that answered the phone told me that I was wrong, and that the pace of play was 4 hours and 30 minutes. I assured her that wasn’t the case as we were playing behind several teams practicing for the up coming tournament. I asked for the ranger, and she said he was on the course. I asked for a rain check for the second nine, and she said no. We left, since I didn’t have 6 hours to play 18 holes.

Last time I golfed here was over 15 years ago and it was not pleasant. Fast forward to today, it was awesome. They’ve put a ton of money into the course and it doesn’t look anything like the old Maryvale Golf Course. Tough approach shots and greens are well guarded by unforgiving bunkers. Only gripe was some of the traps were wetter than others. But serves me right for being in the beach for most of the round! Will return for sure.

I enjoyed the design of this course with one exception. I believe it was designed to be challenging but fair. The fairways are guarded primarily by bunkering as opposed to desert areas common to most other courses in this region. The greens were mostly elevated with a lot of bunkers around them. There are a few water hazards sprinkled in. The exception is that there were too many times balls were crossing fairways. The adjoining fairways could not separated due to the fact that the course is land locked.

Cannot say enough good things about GCU, amazing course

With the current tee time rates GCU golf course is a reasonable value because it is in terrific shape and the students are really polite and helpful. Nice variety of holes with the back nine morphing into challenging target golf. The only slight criticism would be the inconsistency of some of the sand traps ( and I was in a lot of them). Well worth playing

Other than a frost delay (who can control that?) my only gripe was having to use the mats on the practice range. Beyond that the course was in great condition and the pace of play was very good for a Saturday.

Sand traps protecting almost every green, and greens were hard so hitting and staying on green was tough. No GPS or plug on cart to charge mine, but other than the above course is good. Only saw beverage cart one in the entire round??
