Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Course not up to expectations
The fairways were not in good shape. Lots of places where there was no grass.
Greens were good and fast.
There was no ranger and the pace was horribly slow.
There were no bathrooms on the course. Really?
I felt I paid more than I should have for the condition the course was in.
GCU Golf Course
This was my first time playing this course. I thought the layout was very good and some holes quit challenging. The greens where nice and fast, however on this day they where doing some course maintenance to get the fairways in better condition.
The staff was friendly from the clubhouse, the starter and cart girl.
ENJOY YOUR ROUND
Ok to play
Course was not in great shape but I believe it was in a seasonal change over. Greens were very fast and hard to get an accurate read. But over all if it was in top condition I think it would be fun to play again. Price is a little high for the course but not drastic.
Fun layout
This was a non-stress, fun course. You do not have to worry about losing balls and you can grip it and rip it. The ball carries a mile and runs forever
One of the Best in the Valley
I have been playing a lot of golf around the valley lately and was very pleased with the conditions, pace of play, and friendly staff at GCU Golf Course. The greens were in absolutely great shape and the fairways are transitioning over for summer play. I played a 4 hour round on a Saturday so no issues with pace, and the course had plenty of people working the carts or behind the counter to grab a drink. Overall one of my favorite courses to play any day of the week.
Best greens I have played in AZ...Great course and pace of play was wonderful.
Very good course
I have golfed here on many occasions. Even though GCU may not be the best golf course in the valley. It is diffidently one of the better ones in the Phoenix area. GCU has spent a lot of money to improve a course that was once a laughing stock in the area. GCU has done a great job at improving this course.
The course is usually in very good condition. Their sand bunkers are hard at times, and their greens are pretty fast. May golfers will walk the course, making the round pretty fast. I really can not complain about this place, but again! I'm not saying it's one of the best course in the valley.
Top tiered greens
Overall course was in solid consisting. Tees, fairways, sand, and greens all in proper condition. Rough was a bit out of place but format Bermuda so you get what you get. Some of the truest greens in the valley and bunkers are some of the most challenging anywhere in AZ. Solid course for the price.
