Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Great greens
Greens were fantastic and bunkers (of which there are a LOT) were adequately sanded. Fairway divots were numerous., and some bare spots were noticed. No grass in rough and all hard-pan. Outside service was non-existent, until outside attendant wandered over after round to wipe clubs (for a tip of course) and was snotty when wipe down was declined.
Course is surrounded by a noisy streets and bordered by houses not well kept. Beyond all that, this course could be really good if the fairways and rough were better maintained .
Good value
Good value for this time of year. Green to next t-box on some holes is confusing... no signage.. Course winds through a residential housing area and long distance between some greens and next t box.
Lots of sand
First timer for this course and doubt we will be back. Zero Pace of play. Over a 5 hour round. More than once we had several groups on the same tee. Course is OK with lots of sand. There is some hidden trouble if you are not familiar with the course. Not a great value with overall conditions. Doubt we will be back. Definitely not for what we paid.
Parkland golf in the desert
This was the first time I’ve played this course, and I found the condition in good shape. Greens were very smooth and fairly speedy too if you were on the wrong side of the hole. The course seemed to have several sets of tees making in fun for multiple skill levels. There’s certainly some strategy to consider off of some of the tees even from the back. The greens are well bunker and almost all slope off in all directions. Pretty much every hole runs along another which is more forgiving but could also be dangerous depending on whos playing :) . Lots of different hole designs and overall fun to play. Very walkable course which I appreciate especially out in AZ. It’s a bit of a drive for me coming from chandler but I’ll definitely play there again.
Golf Now needs to stop asking for review
My round was fine but Golf Now needs to fix their system. Twice a day for the last two weeks I have been sent the same e-mail and asked to review the same round- I reviewed it the first time- fix your system Golf Now!!! this is annoying
Disappointed
Unbelievably slow play. Rough was like hitting off of dirt. We quit before finishing as it was going to be a five hour round. Nice people, nice clubhouse with good food. But it wasn’t a good experience and definitely isn’t worth the 99.00 each that we paid.
SLO>>>>>>>W
First time playing this course. Saw some good reviews and we needed to find a course to play that was a reasonable drive for each of us as we are on the west side and they are on the east of the valley. Not sure of the total bunker count, but it must be close to 100. They are everywhere. Tough course for a high handicapper. We waited for our next shots on every hole. There was a 3 group back up on fir first par 3. Ranger came around and said they were aware of the back up, but it should clear after hole 8. That did not happen,. More waiting and another back up with 3 groups on one of the par 4s on the back nine. Holes are for the most part are basically the same layout. Very flat with dog legs or straight away. There were a couple of holes where some players had sliced their tee shots 2 fairways over.. This course obviously gets a lot play and many of the landing areas from the tees are mostly filled in divots. Sand in the bunkers is not bad, but can get very firm in the bottoms. We will not recommend this course, nor will we be back. Too many other courses for less money, better layout and faster play. We drove from SCW where we typically finish a round in 3 1/2 hours and pay 1/2 of what we paid at GC, plus better course conditions and layout.
Slow
What a slow front nine (over 2.5 hours). No Marshall (that we saw) giving golfers advice on how to speed up play. For ex. Two guys and two gals in front of us. Guys were long hitters who kept waiting for the green to clear. The gals could have teed off while the guys were waiting. The gals quit after 9 and the round picked up, but still slow. Anyway, the greens were awesome! They rolled so true and fast!! Fairways were super green! My only knock on the course conditions is that this course gets so much traffic that you are bound to land on a divot. I landed in at least 4 today. Sucks to hit it straight and get rewarded with a nice ball in a divot. Always a great playing here!
