About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in Apr 2018.
Villa de Paz Golf Course was voted the top affordable 18-hole course in the Valley of the Sun, according to the Arizona Republic. The parkland course challenges top golfers, though it's not so difficult that beginners will wish they'd golfed elsewhere. After a 2002 remodel, the par-71 course measures 6,700 yards and offers water on 10 holes. If Phoenix in summertime intimidates, fear not: at Villa de Paz Golf Course, shade abounds, due to mature trees lining several fairways. Shoot for birdies or eagles, do so, but wisely. Reward has risk. Shooting sharply is especially required on holes like the fourth, a par-4 450-yarder with a severe right dogleg. Hitters dig the seventh, eighth and 15th, par 4s that can be nailed from the tee. The 18th mixes distance and skill. The par-4 470-yarder doglegs right and requires a carry over a lake to reach the three-tiered green. Fancy a warm-up before the Villa de Paz Golf Course? Use the handy practice area, with its range, two-tiered hitting zones and highlighted target areas at different yardages so you can check your length -- and the wind.

Will never go back
Started out the day thinking i would get i would get a good reasonable priced round of golf in off a hot deal but boy was i wrong. it all started with initially arriving to head that they are 30 minutes behind on tee times (likely to bad scheduling or other things) which is understandable... to a degree. What was also understandable is getting paired as well which does not bother me except when i made it clear i had my brother with me as a ride along fresh after the holidays he was staying at my house and got the smug remark of "thats not my problem he can walk then" from the older man at the desk (not sure of his relevance to the course if he just works or is in management). So that already left me with a bad taste in my mouth but where it really took off was the pace of play. We were constantly waiting with how stacked they had it and the 2 groups in front of us were playing a skins game comepleting slowing the pace and causing a stack up of players on tee boxes, i would also like to add that one of the employees was taking part in this play and was part of the problem. in an hour we had only covered 2 holes and were waiting on the 3rd tee box when the twosome i was grouped with called the clubhouse and got offered a refund so they left. i decided to leave and do the same and thats where the fun came in. I got back to the clubhouse where the sameperson who oh so kindly addressed my ride along situation also handled my request for the same refund as my group at the same time of issuing theirs. I was told that I was not going to be reimbursent for a lot of bogus reasons. First being cause i paid online he couldnt do a rain check or a reimbursement which isunderstandable to not reimburse but not to not give a round of play back. Second he tried to BS with saying well its a twlight tee time to its just play what you can and try to finish so he wasnt in control of that. It was not a twilight tee time, we were a 12:00am tee time that got pushed to 12:45 because of their establishment not my choice and even then it still wasnt a twilight time. At this point i got fed up and left after paying for a 18 hole tee time to only play 2 and get rejected for a rain check or reinbursement of sorts because i couldnt wait fo finish at a pace of 7+ hours. Will never go back here and strongly advise against going to this course. Save the money and headache and go to one of the other surrounding courses that are in the same price range.
Worth playing ... if you get a deal.
This was my first time playing Villa De Paz. I got a pretty good deal on the greens fee so that made up for some of the course's shortcomings. Overall, I had a good experience. The greens are really well maintained and rolled pretty true. The fairways are also in decent shape. Get off the fairway, though, and it's all patchy rough and hardpan. The range is okay, but not very long so using your driver isn't really an option for a longer (275+) hitter. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The course isn't very long, but most of the greens slope pretty severely from back to front and are also very undulating, making for some challenging placements. I would recommend the course to a friend if they get a Hot Deal like I did, but it's probably not worth it otherwise; I likely won't play here again, too many other good options in the area.
Really Nice Shape
Villa de Paz is in great shape right now. Greens running medium speed with some nice challenging hole locations.
Enjoyed our day at LaPaz
this course offers a great opportunity to use all clubs in the bag. A good golfer that is a good ball striker and hits it straight makes this an easy course. For the rest of us there is a real challenge on every hole.
Over-priced for this type of course, greens look like they've been pelted with boulders-needs attention.
Overall this course is not too bad of a recreational/neighborhood course, but for the $25 price for 'twilight' it was a bit much. Fairways were somewhat bare and the greens rolled nice, but divots EVERYWHERE, too bad as this course had some nice doglegs and long par 3's (played from the blues). No marshal and it showed, play was WAY too slow. Might play in the spring/summer if the price were around $15.
Greens in great condition
Greens were in great condition. The fairways need a little work. The rough was in decent condition. Gas powered cart the could use an upgrade. I will play this course again
Great layout
This course has some easy holes and it has plenty of challenging holes I love the layout it could be taken care of a little bit better but that's probably why you get a great deal on the course. Great course for the money
Too much bare fairway off the tee box.
course is priced right for the condition it is in. lot if ball marks on greens.
mostly nice
2 fairways need some landscaping and irrigation to grow needed grass.... the rest of the course was very nice and fair to play.... will play here again on Friday....
poor
Course is in rough shape. It is not maintained very well.
A good play.
This is a fun course, and is in really good shape. Previous reviews are either untimely or just too picky. The fairways are lush, and the greens have come in great! Everything is still a little long, but there is a tournament coming up, and will be in great shape by then. Greens are slow, but beautiful. The bunkers are packed and need to be turned. The rough is maintained, so you won't lose balls off the fairway. Fun layout and very playable! Offers some gems, like a 230yd par 3, and a nearly 600 yd par 5. Neat design! Worth the drive. :)
Decent course, rough slow greens
Fairways were in nice shape but the greens were bumpy and very slow. I understand that they have just come out of over seed but it seems the greens could have been cut shorter. The main issue here is that too many players either don't know about repairing ball marks or simply don't care what condition they leave the greens in. Our 4some spent as much time on each green repairing various ball marks as we did preparing for our own putts. The staff is friendly enough, however, there is plenty of talk around the course about a pending course sale and closure....Not a bad course, it just needs some attention around and on the greens....
great staff
good value in a couple of weeks after reseeding will be great.
It was a great price because they were reseeding.
Fairways were great. The greens were fuzzy, but they are reseeding, which is why the price was so low. The conditions were actually better than expected.
my wife and I play here all the time, our favorite place to play, great value and wonderful staff
Been playing this course for years and one of my favorite places to play, great course for the money and very friendly
Nice course could use a little work
Overall pretty nice but greens could use a little attention, pace wasn't too bad, lots of nice dog legs and slopes, and some pretty overgrown spots here and there. I would go again but at a cheaper rate then $27.
One of my favorite courses...
Love this course, but it has seen better days. Mid-August, and summer is rough everywhere, but its not in good shape. Almost every green had dead spots, the fairways had too many dead areas, and the rough hasn't been mowed in awhile. Sand traps are flat.. BUT.. The greens putt true and consistent on all holes, and it really is a fun layout.
