About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Great course. Pace was bad.
Great course!! Would absolutely play again. Pace surely needs to improve. 5 hour 15 minute round. Just unacceptable. Bar and grill staff were great also.
Great bang for your buck!
Can’t beat an early tee time at this course in the summer! Loved it.
Reno Golf
Our favorite course and beautiful. The par 3 over the lake is a spectacular view and shot from the blue tees. Great staff...
PA. Golfers
My son and I always play a round near Reno when visiting my older son. Toiyabe delivered a great time starting with the friendly reception and excellent rental equipment. The golf course was in excellent condition: challenging, varied, fair and lots of fun. Great service, great conditions, well-controlled pace of play- a definite must play for us when in Reno-Carson City.
To slow
To sloooooooowwwweeee. Your HAVE to not let the retire foursome out first after your tourney wants. Literally turned it into 6 hour round.
Mountain splendor
Great staff. Fun layout. And don’t forget to stop and take in the glorious mountains. Greens proved to be tricky. Fine shape just difficult to read this time. I will go back.
Awesome
The course was beautiful designed and the pace of play was just about 4 hours. We had a blast playing. The front nine was a little soggy and the bunkers do need work and sand.

Tough course in need of repairs
I realize it’s still early in the season, but lots of repair work needs to be done. For example, there were spots of mud and mushy areas in fairway and near golf cart path exits; some bunkers had standing water in them or were hard crust. Didn’t seen to be any bunkers with actual sand in them. It was difficult to navigate the course because there were no yardage books or cart GPS units. Even if you hit a great shot, your ball can easily be swallowed up by unexpected waste areas, creeks or water hazards. If yardage books were available to purchase, it was not made apparent by pro shop staff. Very slow play, over 5 hour round. Tough greens. Every pin seemed to be placed on a slant. This is definitely not a resort style course so you would have to play it repeatedly to learn the nuances of it.

Great course. Paired with a local, shout out to tom and bob… was a beautiful course. Views, waterfowl, and great golf. Only thing I’d complain about was the price of my cup of coffee.
