Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Late morning t times not recommended

Always a tournament on the course when you play at 10 am or later. Pace of play 5+ hours when this occurs. Love the course without the pace of play issue. Today was unusually windy (30 mph, 50 mph gusts) nearly unplayable but these are personal choices and no fault of the golf course staff. A favorite course!!

Greens were fast, smooth, curvy and unpredictable

Very very challenging. Nice layout. Avoid afternoon winds, even the trees have grown up leaning with the wind. Pace of play was ridiculous, but due to 3 earlier events.
