It was in similar condition to King's North, but not quite as well kept because it looks like it gets much more play. Greens not quite as quick. Traps had a different , firmer, darker type of sand. Much less trouble (water, sand, etc.) to get into.
A good course for higher handicappers. You'll get the feel of a high end, well manicured course without the forced carries and difficulties of the much, much, much more difficult King's North course on the same property.
Count on MB Natl for good conditions
Played all 3 MB Nat'l courses dozens of times over 20 years of going to Myrtle Beach. The west course was in excellent condition. Everything was in great shape. This course is wide open for the most part. The greens were excellent. Of the 4 courses I played this week this one was in the best shape. As it turns out this was the cheapest price that I played but it was in the best condition.
Great Shape
Tee Boxes & Fairways are in excellent shape. Greens recently aerified but putted true & FAST. Staff seemed concerned because of the heat & kept reminding us to drink plenty of fluids. Pace of play was very good. 4hrs 10mins with foursome & extreme heat.....
Fairly Wide Fairways
Bag Drop very busy with 3 course but enough people to move you thru. Counter staff not over friendly. Course was in excellent shape. Pace was fine on front nine but slowed down on back. Not a lot of trouble on the course but challenging enough for weekend golfers.
Good course
We have played this course each time we have visited Myrtle Beach. Course was in good condition. Good service. Women's tees are very fair. Carts now have GPS. Only drawback, GPS sometimes play ads that you cannot pause while player is taking their shot.
True greens
very nice ,greens were fast in true not very difficult easy to score a Well a great confidence booster
MBN-West
The course played very good. Its a great course. The course was in great shape.
It was a great layout and well maintained
The weather was great and the afternoon tee gave us uncrowded golf. It was a nice pace game with a course with little trouble. Our threesome played in less than 4 hours.
Fun Track, Well-Maintained
Interesting lay-out with just enough sand and water to make it a challenge. Course was in great shape in spite of heavy rains the day before. Friendly staff. Overall an excellent value. I'll definitely go back.
Must play!
Every year we make it a point to play MBN West and South Creek, both are excellent.
course was in excellent shape
First time playing in Myrtle and this was the first course we played. Went off right on time and was thoroughly impressed with the condition and beautiful surroundings of the course. Would definitely play again on another trip down here.
Nice Course
I was able to play Myrtle Beach National West Course on 07-20-13. The course was well maintained, the greens were quick, and the staff was friendly. I was in town on vacation and read other good reviews of this course so I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed.
The only down side was that we only saw the beverage cart girl on the first hole (naturally when we did not need anything). I realize that there are 3 courses at this complex, so you would think that they would have more than one beverage cart girl going around.
Overall, a very good experience though. Definitely a nice course for the money.
Enjoyed the course
Loved the course, it's to bad the excessive rain spoiled the day. I would like to try the course again in better weather conditions. I would highly recommend this course.
Great Course, Great Price
We were hoping for King's North at Myrtle Beach National, and when that course was unavailable we selected the West Course. Not much water in play throughout. Pine trees are the main barriers between holes and OOB.
Only downside for our day was aerated greens. Fairways and rough were in excellent condition. Would definitely recommend this course. I will be playing at Myrtle Beach National again!
Worth every penny
What can I say, course was in great shape, greens the tiniest bit bumpy in places, not too fast. I'm sure this is one of the best $40 courses in Myrtle. Definitely would play again.
Nice course for the price!
Definitely a nice course for the price. Course wasn't too hard and that was from the blue tees. There are hardly any water hazard but sand bunkers almost around every green. Grass was maintained pretty well. Green speeds were about average, not super fast. Only thing that could be better would be the beverage cart make more frequent visits. With a heat index of 105 degrees on the morning we played, it would have been nice to get more to drink. Overall, would definitely come again and try the other courses there.
Definitely a great value for the money, I paid $44, and I would play again.
The course is well maintained. The fairways are wide enough to be fair and allows you to keep out of trouble. The fairway traps are thin, which makes it easy to get out of them, while the green side bunkers are somewhat "soft". Their are many doglegs, but you could hit 200-225 off the tee and be on the fairway. Greens in great shape and not too fast. Their are yardage markers every 25 yards, well marked and yardage to front, center and back of green. No GPS on the carts. Definitely a great value for the money, I paid $44, and I would play again.
Very enjoyable course for all golfers
As a big hitter, I really appreciate the "generous" nature of this Arnold Palmer course design. While it is definitely an advantage to put the ball in the fairway here, you can miss it a bit left or right and still find the ball and play it forward. The par fives are all attackable (I had two putt birdies on both 1 and 10). There's a nice variety of par threes and par fours. Most of the greens tilt back to front, making them easier to hit and hold. The greens were in very good shape and running medium-fast.
The biggest drawback I found to this course was the number of people they packed onto it. They sent groups off both sides, with no attempt to keep appropriate spacing. The starter was not helpful, and there were no active on-course ranger. The bag drop area was overwhelmed as they had a big crowd arrving for the front-and-back times on the three course in the complex.
Overall a very good golf course with an average staff - I will go back and play it again.
Decent condition, good staff
MBN-West was nice course, in good shape, good staff, nothing to complain about. Was some pandamonium at the drop off (3 18s, using the wave system, not surprising), but the staff was friendly and helpful. Course was wide open and under a 4 1/2 hour round. Greens were a bit slow, but ran true thoughout.
Great golfer friendly course for price.
The staff was friendly and the course was very golfer friendly. Depending on tees you played from, the course could also offer a challenge.
