Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Whirlwind Phoenix Resort Course
Whirlwind courses in mid March, hard to beat; good resort course combined with near perfect weather. Caught a day with zero waiting, finished in 3-1/2 hours!
Course could be great
The condition of the grass was not good all the rough was just straw, need more care. Greens were good and fairways were average. Pace of play was great, beverage cart was good. Poor that when we finished at 4:45 the bar and restaurant was closed. A reasonable golf course but not a golf experience
Great practice facility
Funky front nine layout, but the back nine is much better. Course gets lots of play. Tee boxes are taking a beating but the greens were nice. Greens are small on front nine.
All around great course
Me and my wife golfed cattails yesterday by our selves and had the time of our life!! We weren’t pushed , the course was in fantastic shape for this time of year and the staff was over the top from pro shop to the Restaurant!! can’t wait to come back again!! 5 stars all day long!!
Great track…not on weekends
Nice track, but I would highly recommend against weekends. Not because of golf…but the proximity of Whirlwind to a large dirt racing track. All day long sound of revving engines really takes the peace and serenity out of the game. Check the track schedule before booking!
Course was greatly overpriced. Fairways were narrow to save monies on overseeding around the traps and collars of the greens there is no grass. Yellow dirt.
Professional golfer would have a difficult time with these kinds of shots. Greens were slow.
Open fairways
Open fairways, so only trouble are bunkers and a few holes with water close to the greens.
Great experience
Great experience. The staff was great, the course was well cared for. The ranger was right on top of pace of play. Fastest round I’ve played in Arizona this winter. Never got backed up
Amazing Facility!!
Golf as its meant to be!!
Turf conditions on point, great layout and practice facilities!!
If you haven’t been its time
Will be back
Really enjoy the morning round.
Course is in top shape and plays to different handicap levels due to the tee box options.
Excellent conditions. This course was amazing. I would play again.
Best courses in town. Hands down.
You will never have an issue here. Both courses are always immaculate, even in summer. And it's QUIET! Staff is perfect. Restaurant is perfect. Pricey but worth every cent. Much better value than other high end courses in town. (In looking at you, Talking Stick)
