Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Perfect day
Great day on the course. Staff was super friendly. Plenty of room on the driving range and practice green played just like the course. Round was a little slow for what seemed like a quiet day out there (4Hours) but plenty of nice views to check out while you wait. Played Cattail - would like to check out their other course next time.
Stuck behind an eight some.
Pretty typical desert course. Very few holes that are memorable.
Conditions just ok. Not bad. Just not awesome.
Pace of play is absurd. We were stuck behind a group of 8! No marshalls helping with pace of play and we say another hole that also had 8 (or more players). That group didn’t impact our pace of play but it shows that they are not taking care of their guests.
No intention to ever return. Too many nice places to play to need to need to out up with this. If you need to finish your round in a timely fashion - I recommend you look elsewhere.
Whirlwind Cattail
Our go to course in the Phoenix metro area. Can't go wrong playing here. We need off at 1:30 pm on a sunny Thursday afternoon and were done in 3.5 hours. Just a fabulous course.
Great course.
2nd time playing here. Great practice facilities and fantastic pace of play today. Teed off just before 1pm and finished in 3h50m.
Fairways and greens were in very fine condition.
I’d love to play here again.
Enjoyable round
Course was in great shape and pace of play was 4:15 with all tee times booked. Both courses at whirlwind dont make the turn at the club house between 9 & 10, so make sure you have plenty of supplies. There is a food cart but was pretty much sold out on sandwiches both days we played
Perfect Desert Course
We were in town for a week and played 5 courses. This was the best. Course was in perfect shape (Devil's was seeded later and wasn't quite all the way back yet). Wouldn't hesitate to play it again.
Solid track…excellent pace of play
We got on online tee times for about $50 off per person from their rack rate . It was Thanksgiving and the weather was great. No wind. 75 degrees. The staff was super friendly and let us go out early since the sooner we finish, the sooner they can go eat their turkey! Lol
We didn’t have the course to ourselves, but never had anyone behind us and then 1 couple we eventually caught up with and passed. Finished a round in 3 hours 30 minutes! The back was a lot harder than the fron and our scores showed it. Still a great day. There is a casino right there as well, so we headed there and I won back our green fees and a little more. Happy Thanksgiving!
Great Course - Fast and True Greens
Whirlwind is always in great shape. I love putting on nice greens!
Nice course - extremely slow
First the positives. Nice course and very friendly staff. The course is quite expensive and believe that pace of play should be a part of the experience. We played in 5 hours 10 minutes. There was no martial on the course. By hole 4 we knew we were going to be in for a slow round. Waiting on every hole, in fact there were three groups waiting on one of the Par 3 Tee boxes. The day could have been great, however, the frustration impacted the enjoyment.
