Balfron Golf Club
About
Balfron Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course that was recreated from its original layout by respected Scottish golf architect Robin Hiseman. The new nine-hole golf course was opened in 1994, and it was extended to 18 holes 7 years later.
The Baltron golf course is located six miles from Loch Lomond and 20 miles north of Glasgow. There are inspiring views of the local countryside, eerily reminiscent of playing golf in the Scottish highlands.

Great day out
This is a cracking course set in stunning scenery. We played in perfect conditions and there are some challenging holes but the majority are ideal for players of all standards. Some blind shots so knowledge of where the burns and bunkers lie is helpful but handy hole displays on each tee. Also we'll signposted as some tees require leaving bag and walking back. Fairways by and large are generous and as such anything really wayward encounters some brutal rough which is fair. The greens were really good for this time of year as we're the bunkers (I found a few) with generous soft sand..All in all a great course and a decent price.
I’m sorry....
I am ashamed to admit this was my first visit to this course despite living 20 minutes away.
Hard as it is for me to take I’m clearly a golf snob.
This is a must visit. Great golf without the baggage of golf!!!
A test of golf
Arrived in plenty of time, explored so I knew where I needed to be. Due to COVID restrictions the club house was closed, no issues, so went a drive into Balfron and found a bakery for morning rolls, full, I was ready to play. An incline takes you from the carpark to the club house (nice and gravelled easy to push a trolley). I met a nice lady who was sitting outside the club house and very kindly arranged a score card for me. Always excited to play a new course I stood on the first tee in anticipation. A couple of practice swings and away I went. Course management is key here, some blind tee shots with hidden hazards which caught me totally off guard on the first, putting my ball in the water. Greens were a great pace so much so I knocked my first put about 15ft by. Walked off with a 6 which wasn’t too bad all things considered. After realising my gps watch had a hazard function I didn’t make that mistake again and managed to plot my way around fairly successfully. The course undulates in places with some hills to walk up and down however most fairways are flat with good lies on fairway and rough. Hats off to the green keeping staff who appear to put a lot of care and attention in tending to the course. Scenery was stunning with some amazing views and the course was quiet and tranquil. The sun came out around the time I got to the 7th which only highlighted the aforementioned. I was enjoying myself and felt like I was playing good shots. Was +7 at the turn (was room for improvement as I found one of the many bunkers at the 8th) but all in all was happy. My favourite hole was the 15th a great par 5 that falls to the left with a stream running along that side before cutting in front of the green. Came back in +4 so a good improvement. I had a wonderful day out and highly recommend this course to all. I will return in the not too distant future to be challenged again.
Quiet and enjoyable
Clubhouse closed to Covid so no one to meet on arrival however made my way on to the course at the allotted time and teed off. Not very busy so no waiting behind anyone and no one pressing from behind. Quite refreshing to have such a relaxed round. Still round in 3 hours. It’s a course with picturesque views to the hills in a small village. Very up and down hilly so very glad to have electric trolley wouldn’t do it without. Quite wide fairways and a few doglegs, some streams made for an interesting variety of holes. Not the longest holes in general but greens fairly tricky slopes although grass was not cut low and very slow. Would definitely play again.
Good track, would like to play in summer conditions
Lovely course
We played here on the Monday after a weekend of very heavy rain and found the course understandably a little wet under foot. But to be honest it wasn’t really that bad considering the amount of rain that fell. The course itself is very well laid out and kept in excellent condition by the greens staff . A lot of testing holes with some lovely scenery around the course too. We enjoyed it so much that we returned on the Wednesday to play it again. We ( my son & me ) will definitely be back ( preferably in the summer) .
Very enjoyable
Played this course recently after the previous day and evening had seen very heavy rainfall. The course was in excellent condition with no standing water and very good greens. Superb views add to the experience and I will definitely return.
10/10!
Compared to other courses in the are, the course is unbelievable value for money. The course is in impeccable condition, the layout is great and the variety of holes made for a great round. Only reason for a 4/5 for course condition is that we caught the course the day after it had been cored and sanded, but this only affected a couple of holes. Special mention to the course ranger who we met at various points during our round - he took the time to chat to us and added to our already great experience. We’ll be back before long. The photos online do no justice to what is a truly stunning golf course - a MUST PLAY and one I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!
A wee hidden Gem
What a day we had at Balfron ,from a lovely welcome from the starter to a nice chat with the greenkeepers to a tidy well looked after course in the current climate ....oh and the views wow !!!!
Great course and views
loved playing this course. Great layout, features and hazards. The only point would be I would prefer faster greens however it wouldn't stop me going back
The scenery is fantastic.
Balfron after a few Years
Played with my 3 sons today. Course in super condition. Great layout and the not so new 9 holes have really bedded in. Greens could have been a bit quicker and the old ones were better. All in all we had a great day and will be back. For what you pay you get a fabulous product. Thanks again.
