About
Balfron Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course that was recreated from its original layout by respected Scottish golf architect Robin Hiseman. The new nine-hole golf course was opened in 1994, and it was extended to 18 holes 7 years later.
The Baltron golf course is located six miles from Loch Lomond and 20 miles north of Glasgow. There are inspiring views of the local countryside, eerily reminiscent of playing golf in the Scottish highlands.

Golfer Reviews
Very enjoyable
Played this course recently after the previous day and evening had seen very heavy rainfall. The course was in excellent condition with no standing water and very good greens. Superb views add to the experience and I will definitely return.
10/10!
Compared to other courses in the are, the course is unbelievable value for money. The course is in impeccable condition, the layout is great and the variety of holes made for a great round. Only reason for a 4/5 for course condition is that we caught the course the day after it had been cored and sanded, but this only affected a couple of holes. Special mention to the course ranger who we met at various points during our round - he took the time to chat to us and added to our already great experience. We’ll be back before long. The photos online do no justice to what is a truly stunning golf course - a MUST PLAY and one I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!
A wee hidden Gem
What a day we had at Balfron ,from a lovely welcome from the starter to a nice chat with the greenkeepers to a tidy well looked after course in the current climate ....oh and the views wow !!!!
Great course and views
loved playing this course. Great layout, features and hazards. The only point would be I would prefer faster greens however it wouldn't stop me going back
The scenery is fantastic.
Balfron after a few Years
Played with my 3 sons today. Course in super condition. Great layout and the not so new 9 holes have really bedded in. Greens could have been a bit quicker and the old ones were better. All in all we had a great day and will be back. For what you pay you get a fabulous product. Thanks again.
Excellent Greens
Great course, quite hilly with some elevated greens and tees. Some blind tee shots but overall great fairways and greens.Clubhouse closed.Members sound enough..
Very cheeky members
I played this course on the 16th of aug and other than the stunning views I haven’t really got a good compliment about it I arrived 2 mins late due to traffic and got a mouthful of abuse from a MEMBER who can I point out thought he owned the course as I was to find out throughout the 18 holes I was repeatedly told to take my golf trolley of certain parts of the course by this MEMBER he also gave us a mouthful about going into the clubhouse for a scorecard the clubhouse can I add was open!!! But should’ve been locked and at the end of the round there was members all gathered together chatting away NO SOCIAL DISTANCING I hade high expectations for this course and was totally let down won’t be back!!
Excellent Challenge
First time played and thoroughly enjoyed. While not the longest it requires accuracy off the tee and a good short game. Greens were slow in comparison to other courses nearby however the course was in great condition throughout. Definitely be back
Balfron Heights
Nice course with good conditions ... course is a bit too hilly for my liking
Enjoyable parkland
Enjoyable first time here. Some stunningly clever holes, some straight away featureless ones. Greens are clever and interesting, some subtle undulations thankfully not playing too fast. A couple of them are world class designed, 17th in particular is a great hole. A few blind tee shots are fine so long as you don’t lash out, laying up off the tee is the best approach. All in all a good day out.
Excellent course
A great golf course with the most stunning scenery. Tough but fair and in great condition.
Nice course
Can’t comment on off course facilities as closed due to COVID . Well set out course which offered a challenge or two for a high handicapper . Greeted on hole 4 by the course Marshall who was very polite and welcoming, making sure I was managing round the course ok. If you stray into the rough just drop a ball as it is quite long . Overall would come back to tackle this course again great views and nice course
Played here for the first time, wet underfoot obviously because of the weather, greens in cracking condition for middle of december with recent weather conditions, one temp green but wouldnt know it if you didnt see real green beside it! Would be great to play in the summer!
A gem in the Trossachs
I booked a round of golf at this course whilst paying a brief visit to the area. I found the car park easily enough though the location of the course itself was not that obvious but having passed the barred gate and made the short uphill climb I discovered the course but also the fact that there is no clubhouse as such, just a shed. Nonetheless the welcome from the staff was warm and I was allowed to go out a full hour before my allotted tee time. This was because apparently there was no one else out on the course besides the greens staff. An interesting and very well maintained course in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.
Hidden Gem
This is definitely one of the most enjoyable golf experiences we have enjoyed in the last few years. We were looking for somewhere we could play early and drove from Kilmarnock. It was well worth the journey!
Despite a hazy start the sun soon burnt this off leaving behind a lovely course, with some spectacular views.
Whilst the course is hilly it was in fantastic condition, with immaculate greens, which were a joy to putt on.
We were surprised how quiet the course was but hopefully more golfers will find and enjoy this lovely test of golf. Excited to come back and play it again.
awesome pic!
