Worth the tough location
This course is amazing and is in absolutely fantastic shape. The location is a bit of drive for most folks since this is a spot kind of out in the middle of nowhere but it is well worth the trip!
A Good Course, But...
Nice layout, but it's not all in front of you so it's very challenging to all first comers. The rough is punishing including around the greens so staying in the short stuff and managing your misses is important. The greens are normally very fast and true. However on our last round they had punched 3 wks back and they were still running very slow and needed badly to be rolled.
I rated the course 3 stars because I deducted one star for each of the issues I had with the course. The first is that they just can't charge these prices for a round and then give you greens that compare in performance to a muni with fuzzy super slow greens. At least notify with alerts about the aerification if it continues to affect normal play? Secondly, some compare this club to a resort and although it may appear that way, the club culture of overly focusing on pace of play and carts staying out of the 4" rough that hides balls says otherwise...between the marshals and the onboard display beeping at you it got pretty bad. A true resort promotes enjoyment of the facilities and not doing what we felt was 'nagging' to near the point of losing that enjoyment.
great course
Played this on a Sunday morning, staff was friendly, but at the turn we were getting food and the staff was telling us to hurry up... So when we got to the 10 th, the group in front was on the green, not a big deal.... Course was fun, greens were fast...will play again.
Challenging course (especially when it's windy).
Course has always been in very good to great shape evey time I've played here. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Elegant, pristine track
This beautiful course is pristine, beautifully maintained and interesting. It comes with the perks that Troon operation provides ... like unlimited bottles of chilled water complimentary along the course and chilled washcloths at round's end on a hot day. Pricey at regular rate, but very doable as one of golfnow.com's frequent offerings. One of the very best values available from golfnow.
hurry staff wants to play
overall the course is great and the free H2O at every 3-4 holes is a definite life saver as it was 100º + when we played; but the thing that brings down the rating is the staff;
we were hurried through to the first tee, even though we showed up 1 hours before our tee time; they said we were the group that had to go out before the staff gets to play?!? i'm all for everyone playing but i think that was just a bad look;
hidden gem
nice course, top-self service and conditions. extremely hot and way out in country. slow pace of play.
Try it at least once
This is a really pretty course that will test your skills, tee to green. Staff was very helpful and nice throughout the day.
Wet towels really helped as the humidity was quite high with temps in the high 90's. Cool bottled water throughout round was a nice perk. Only con was the inability to leave fairways to reach balls in first cut of rough, GPS auto shutdown of golf cart became annoying as round progressed and temp went up.
Course was in great shape. The staff were very helpful and made us feel like they were glad we were there to play the course.
We had a great time. Driving range was very nice with good practice balls. A helpful attendant was there to answer any questions and take care of our equipment. Golf cart was one of best I have ever rented. The course was kept up and in great shape, it had five different tees to chose from so you could pick the one to fit your game. We played from the white tees, 6449 yards. Fairways were wide enough and not that difficult to hit. Rough was about 3 inches and if you hit it in there it could be a little difficult to make a good shot. But it was fair. Greens rolled very nice and were not to hard to roll the ball at the right speed but to read the breaks took a little practice. Still very fair. We enjoyed our round and will play there again soon.
This course is a jewel in the Capay Valley
First the drive from the North Bay Area is not that bad. From Benicia we were there in less than an hour. This facility has great practice areas to warm up your game. The Driving Range is a look across a gully to an uphill landing area. It is a great view and hitting off of grass is the best. There is a Chipping area that has a large bunker and gives the golfer an opportunity to work on many short shots the you will confront on the golf course. Putting green is equally fantastic. The course is such a pleasure. The fairways are pristine and gives the golfer a great feeling of being on a professional course. Greens run very true, not the fastest, but are a great test. There are challenges and there are birdie opportunities throughout the round. The 19th hole is stunning. On the patio with a well deserved adult beverage in the early evening is the best way to end a round of golf.
GPS Issues
While this is clearly an excellent facility, well maintained and well groomed, their zeal for maintenance and grooming causes an unnecessary problem with the GPS on each cart. Every course directs carts back to the cart path as the players approach the green, but YDH takes it to extremes. At least two thirds of the time on the 4s and 5s, the cart signs are posted in the vicinity of 150 yards out. This means that there are many shots for which the GPS is useless. For example, my second shot on the par 5 10th hole was short, but not all that short, of the green. I could get no closer than 140 yards on a direct line and perhaps 50 or 60 yards on a "parallel" spot along the cart path. I grabbed two clubs and walked up to my ball. I must have had the wrong club, but I could not be sure of that until after I came up short. Something along this line happened at least 6 or 7 times, sometimes with satisfactory results, sometimes not. I certainly appreciate the effort to limit cart traffic near the greens, but not to this extent.
Great track!
A road trip, for sure, but worth every mile. The course, the service, the amenities, the staff were all top-notch. I had a blast!
The course is first rate
The staff, the facility, the course, all of it is first rate. Will certainly go back again.
Exceeded my expectations
I saw the reviews about this course. And they set my expectations high. The service alone is better than any course i can imagine playing at. The course was in pristine condition, and everyone who was playing was very friendly. Will definitely be back here.
One of the best!
This course is one of the most beautiful golf courses I've played. The facilities are top notch. I would say that this is a "Must play" course!
Very Nice Course
A great layout, fun to play & lots of tee choices for all handicap levels. Course was in great condition too. But it’s out in the middle of nowhere. If you are gambler, then you can make a day or a weekend of it at the Cache Creek casino, but that's not my cup of tea. Rack rate fees are a little high for just a drive out for golf, but the GolfNow rate definitely made it worth it the drive.
The staff made the experiance well worht the price.
From the moment we arrived to drop off our bags, until we got out of the golf cart to leave, the quality service provided by the staff was nothing short of world class service.
The great service continued in the club house and the food was excellent.
A rare bright spot open to the public.
It should be a course that every golfer has on his list to play
One of the best courses in the north bay area, Nothing lacking, from the driving range to the practice putting area to the practice pitching area. Facilities are excellent and so is the staff. A course that every golfer will come back and play again.
Excellent Day on the Course
This has to be one of the nicest courses that I've played. It's always in great condition, and Saturday was no exception! Well maintained, challenging yet playable for those of us trying to break 90.
The staff are always the best, it would be hard to find employees at any company that do they're jobs as well as these folks.
Plus the fact that the green fees are reasonable for such a nice course, and it's relatively local for me makes this the first course that I check on Golfnow when looking for a place to play.
Great Course
This is one of the nicest course I've played. The staff is great and very helpful. The fairways and greens are in amazing shape for the time of year and the sand is perfect.
The greens are quick but very true. If you have the right line and speed your going in the hole.
There's lots of well placed bunkers to challenge you or you can play it safe and go around them. Good amount of water also.
The only disadvantage to the course is there is very little to no shade, but there is bottled water provided on several holes with ice to fill up your ice chest. If your going play in the summer bring the sunscreen.
Another nice touch is the chilled wet towel at the end of your round to cool you down. I will be back. My new favorite course.
