About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great Day!
While the greens had just been aerated, the fairways and tees were immaculate. Additionally, the layout and the tees (5 different tiers!) were both outstanding.
Would play this course again in a heartbeat!

Phenomenal experience!
Loved everything about this course. We played after a heavy rainfall and the drainage was outstanding. Beautiful layout and sightlines. Would highly recommend.

excellent course. favors the longer hitter which is nice for me. great condition. hosting an amateur tournament 4 days after I played and they had it in great shape. greens are quick and fairways are excellent and firm. best public golf in the triangle.

Great course
Was passing through Raleigh and read good things about Lonnie Cooper and it did not disappoint. Great layout and it was in excellent shape. Hope to play it again someday

Greens are Excellent
Greens are in excellent condition. Fairways are very good. Native areas have been allowed to grow.....as in if you find your ball, you probably can't hit it! Best condition I've seen the course since last Nov.....play it now before the July/Aug heat takes out the greens.

Course is ready for NC Amateur
The course is ready to host the NC Amateur. Greens are excellent as are the fairways. Challenging hole positions will be a great test of golf next week.

Great greens
The greens are grown in and putting great, little slower than they look. It’s in the best shape I’ve seen in quite some time.

Greens ran true, long holes with very well guarded greens. Pace was slow with 8 minutes between tee times.

Challenging Course and challenging walk
I decided to walk with a pushcart and got my money's worth of exercise. Course was in excellent shape. Greens were rolling well.

Extremely slow
Beautiful course. Would have loved to have finished 18 holes but 3 groups ahead of us were EXTREMELY slow so had to call it a day after playing only 9 holes as a player with us is in the army and had to get back to ft Bragg. Hopefully we will get another chance to play.

Great Course
Despite having a 4pm tee time, we were able to finish 18 before the sun set. It's an extremely well maintained course with amazing views of the city. As a first timer, I was extremely impressed with the value and the friendliness of the staff. I would definitely come back to play.

Greens are currently in great shape. Fun course, good layout, plays tough. Pace of play can be an issue some days. Driving range is hitting off of mats.
