About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great evening walk
Just a nine hole walk but conditions were great and the group in front of me was moving nicely. Keeping in mind they were a threesome and I was a single so props to 'em!!

Best course in Raleigh area
I have played here a few times and I just absolutely love playing at Lonnie Poole. This course is always in great condition, very friendly staff and rangers, and always provides a good challenge to your golf game. Oh yea, and it's always a great time. Course was in pretty good condition and the greens were very fast but it had been dry for about a month up until I played. I recommend this course to anyone in the area looking to play a good quality course. It can be a bit expensive on weekends and sometimes too slow with volume, but is totally worth to get to play on this course.

Slow!
What an unbelievably slow round - people who cannot play in 4 hours should not be playing

Rough greens
This is supposed to be a championship course and the greens were terrible. The pace of play was so slow I almost left after nine holes. Every time there’s a little bit of rain have to stay on the cart path all day long and this course is too much for seniors to walk back and forth. I love the layout I’m just really not for coming back

Great course: play too slow
Play here occasionally. Today was way too slow. Not enough ready golf.

Great all around course. Definitely some tough approach shots, especially with pin placements guarded by bunkers. The only thing that would have made the round better is if they had a cart girl/guy going around the course for beverages! Hope to play there again sometime.

Great Course! Don’t walk it!
Played for my first time at Lonnie Poole and usually walk for the exercise and that was a mistake! Walked close to 7.5 miles though the first 9 holes.

Lonnie Poole Course @ NC State lives up to reputation!!
Visiting with family in the area and played for 3 consecutive days in Raleigh area and the Lonnie Poole course at NC State was clearly the most challenging. Absolutely a course that must be played once to gain a appreciation for the slope an fairway run out as the elevation changes can leave very challenging results. Would absolutely play again and the staff afforded first class treatment from the moment of arrival. Many Thanks!
