Great overall expirfence
Course in excellent condition, challenging layout. Pace of play good even with 100% booked . I would definitely recommend for all levels of play except beginners. Staff very friendly and helpful, it's now part of my course rotation
good course
Course was in great condition following Matthew! Will play again no next trip.
A great way to start the day
Arrived early. Bag boy (gentleman) met me and placed my bag in my reserved cart. The Clubhouse staff were expecting me and explained that GolfNow had only collected their fee and that I still owed for the round. This put me off a bit but a quick check of my bank account confirmed this. Since I was early and the tee box was open I was offered the option of starting now and playing alone or waiting until the two-some they had me paired with arrived. I went out immediately to the first tee. The morning was cool and humid, dew on the ground, not a cloud in the sky. I hit my drive decently and then proceeded to play a very good round in just under 3 hours. A caretaker helped direct me to an errant shot and kept an eye out for the resident gator as I took my shot. All other course personnel were friendly and stopped what they were doing so I could proceed unhindered. The fairways were fair and of good size, the rough was not impossible but the grass was soft and any ball in there was a chore to get up and out. Stay in the fairways!!! The course wound through houses (I managed to whack one with a wicked hook, my only lost ball). I had to wait for some school kids to cross the street which made me feel like I was playing hookie. There were just the right amount of trees hung with Spanish moss, the water hazards (with the aforementioned gator) were appropriately placed to challenge and punish. The greens were hard to judge for speed but true for the most part. I grabbed a hot dog and an Arnold at the turn. They make the Arnolds to your preference (I lean toward more lemonade than tea). I was back to the condo and on the beach before noon and spent the rest of the day with my wife drinking rum drinks in the sand, sun, and surf. Not a bad way to end a very enjoyable day. I love HHI!
Was thoroughly impressed!!
Booked hot deal with GN and really think we found a perfect balance of price/layout/challenge! Great staff who helped us out along the way. No crowd, pace of play was outstanding and course has as much challenge as you want to take on. Rough is just that and so it will make you think rather than just grip it and rip it. Highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a great HHI course to play.
Solid Layout
Pinecrest provides a solid layout with a nice variety of holes, and tees that let you play at a distance suitable to your game. The design punishes bad shots but allows you to not always have to make a perfect stroke. The greens have some character but their speed and conditions varied. Some had little dirt balls on the surface which made putting a challenge.
Bang for the buck!
Challenging and fair course and layout - will appeal to golfers of all skill types! Always in great shape and the staff are great!
Great course for the money
Played 4 other courses during my stay at Hilton Head and thought this was the best course we played.and was a better value for the money we spent.
Pinecrest Golf Course
This was the first time playing this course, but not the last. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. It has plenty of water hazards and bunkers placed in appropriate spots to challenge the mind and talent at any level. Need to pay attention of the grain on the greens to manage the speed. It was a private golf course that was purchased by a management company which open the doors for the public to enjoy the design and eye appeal. Large practice area is available to use prior a round or to catch-up. You should take the time to play this track.
Great Place to Play
This is my first time playing this course. I really like the layout. Even though it was built inside a subdivision, you really didn't notice the houses. The fairways realize. The greens were much better than I had heard from reading the reviews. I definitely would play this course again.
Surprising find!
This course was in excellent shape for this time of the year, particularly with how hot it has been this summer. The greens were in great shape and rolled beautifully. The layout has a nice variety of holes that really added to the enjoyment of playing this course.
Great course
A great and challenging golf course. It had some interesting water hole challenges and offered many risk/reward opportunities. The greens were nice, but a little slower than I am accustomed to - I suspect they had forgone cutting the greens real close due to the long hot dry spell. I booked 18 holes with a cart for $14 through golfnow.com! Oh, some of the tee boxes had just been resodded, so they were a little shaggy, but that just proves they're taking care of the course.
Fun course, very playable.
They pro shop was very helpful when we arrived. The staff at the 19th hole was friendly and attentive. The course was very playable and good scores could be had. The greens were slower than anticipated by other reviews, but they were true. Temporary tees on a few of the front side were used due to recent resodding. The flow if the course was good, and the course was fun to play. It was a good value for the cost.
Good Value
This course is a nice, fun layout. The tee boxes on the first three or four holes are in bad shape but you're hitting off of a tee anyway. I liked how holes 9 and 18 were side by side mirror images of each other. The starter at the bag drop was very friendly.
Needs improvement, but okay overall
Out of the six golf courses by Brown Golf, this (along with Dolphin Head) is the better of the 6, but still in a bit rough shape. The tee boxes are slowly turning into hard sand pits with few grass patches, and the cart paths are coming apart, a few of them you step on them and they come loose and you lose your balance, almost hurt yourself. Greens were in pretty good shape. Was a foursome in front of us, looked like a bunch of beginners teeing it up from where I tee up at, the course needs marshals to move groups like them along, or teach them proper etiquette. Overall, okay day and will definitely come back and use my rain check.
This course has great potential...
Yeah, some of the tee boxes are a tad bare. Some of the bunkers could use new sand. But, overall, this is a nice golf course. It's a great layout. There's lots of room. Greens are just the right mix of flat and contoured.
We had a great day and will definitely be back next year.
Interesting and challenging layout
This is one of the best public courses in the area. The layout is fun, with lots of different challenges. There is plenty of water and sand but not many forced carries off the tee, except on the par threes. Tee boxes were not in good shape but everything else was nicely maintained. The greens were pretty fast but true. Long walks between holes if you're a walker. The staff is nice and attentive. All in all a good value.
Some tricky water holes
Out of all the courses played in Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, and Hilton Head this was our favorite. We played here 3 times - the greens were better than we expected for the price, albeit slower than we are used to.
Could be better
Course conditions were iffy. Greens were poor on the front but better on the back. Still only a 6/10. The course layout is tough if you've never played it before. Blind water on a few holes where you hit a perfect shot only to have it end up in a hazard. I grabbed a twilight for $30 and that's about what it's worth.
Great value
Great value, especially through Golfnow hot deals. Terrific practice facility, challenging layout, good conditions, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
